Both Madrid teams had the perfect start to their matches by taking the lead in under a minute. Antoine Griezmann scored Atletico Madrid’s winning goal in their match against bottom-table Malaga in just 39 seconds, while Lucas Vazquez opened the scoring for Real Madrid against Real Sociedad in just 47 seconds. Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick as Real Madrid went on to trash Real Sociedad to a 5-2 scoreline.
FC Barcelona dropped some points after being held at home to a goalless draw by Getafe. It was a result that allowed the chasing pack to capitalize with a victory in their matches. The remaining teams in the top four were winners in the 23rd round of the league.
Lionel Messi remains top scorer with his 20 goals.
