2017/18 Spanish La Liga – Round 21 – Good week for the ‘Big Guns’

It was a good round for Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo, Atletico Madrid, Antoine Griezmann, FC Barcelona, and Lionel Messi.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a first-half brace to set the tone for Real Madrid’s dominating performance in a very important away fixture against Valencia. With Madrid having a league match in hand, the ‘4-0’ victory puts the team in a position to overtake Valencia and claim the third place spot in the league.

Alaves did their part to make it difficult for FC Barcelona to extend their undefeated run in the league, but a late Lionel Messi free-kick gave Barcelona all three points in from of their home crowd. Messi’s goal was his 20th league goal of the season, top-scorer in the league with his striking partner Luis Suarez 4 goals behind.

3 goals in the second-half allowed Atletico Madrid to keep the gap between themselves and the top of the league at 11-points through a victory over relegation-zoned Las Palmas.

Espanyol’s Mario Hermoso was instrumental in his team’s defeat against Leganes. Hermoso finished the match with three goals to his name. Unfortunately, he the bigger portion of those goals was against his own team.

The two other teams (Deportivo La Coruna and Malaga) in the relegation-zone were involved in a draw.
