The result of the Madrid derby was perfect for the top two teams in the league. Lionel Messi didn’t score but remained top scorer in the league and instrumental in Barcelona’s eleventh victory out of the 12 matches played in the 2017/18 La Liga season. Barcelona stays on top of the league standings after a ‘3-0’ away victory against Leganes. Second-placed Valencia also picked up a ‘2-0’ away victory against Espanyol to keep up with Barcelona in what is looking like a title race between the two.
