2017/18 French Ligue 1 – Round 24 – Monaco wins in classic way, while PSG dominates another round

Despite it being mathematically possible for some of Ligue 1 to catch up with Paris Saint-Germain in the title race, their performance and the talent they possess makes it improbable. With 14 matches left, Paris Saint-Germain is 11-points clear at the top of the league table. Lille did their best to put up a fight, but at the end of the day, they were the latest victim of Paris Saint-Germain’s attack as they march towards their 7th league title and 5th in 6 years. Neymar scored PSG’s second goal in their ‘3-0’ victory to move three goals away from his teammate Edinson Cavani in the top scorer list.

The opening game of the 24th round included Florian Thauvin scoring a hat-trick as Marseille found themselves on the right end of a 9-goal thriller against bottom table Metz. Two late goals from Metz brought a little respect to their defeat after trailing 5 goals with about 25 minutes left to play.

Toulouse beat Nice to move out of the relegation zone.

A late Rony Lopes goal gave Monaco a memorable victory over Lyon in the race for second place. Monaco claimed the third place spot in the league standings by coming from two goals down to win the match with numerical disadvantage against Lyon. Monaco played the entirety of the second-half a man down after Balde Keita accumulated two first-half yellow cards within a 5-minute period. Lyon’s objective of opening a four-point gap between themselves and Monaco was going according to plan in the first 30-minutes of their away fixture against Monaco. Victory could have seen Lyon finish the round in 2nd place.
