2015/16 Serie A: Juventus wins another title.

Posted on

Another season, another title. Juventus is still the best team in Italy. For 5 times in a row, the team from Turin have taken the title with ease.

After the 38 rounds of Serie A, Juventus had recorded 29 wins, 4 draws, and 5 losses. They outscored opponents 75 to 20 and tallied up 91 points.

The completed league table looks like a formality, but the beginning of the season was a rocky on from the defending champions.

Juventus lost their first 3 matches of the season. In their first 3 matches, they could only secure a point. It took the defending champions 4 matches to secure maximum points from a match. It was a 2-0 away win against Genoa.

After their first win of the season, they went on two more winless matches, a draw with Frosinone and a loss to Napoli.

After losing to Napoli, they won 3-1 against Bologna, followed by a goalless draw with Inter Milan, then a 2-0 win against Atalanta, and finally a 1-0 loss to Sassuolo.

After the first 10 matches of their season, the defending champions had managed to win just 30% of their matches. 4 losses, 3 draws and 3 wins. It didn’t look like a title defending season, as the team sat in the lower half of the league table.

Some big players had left the club, and with such a poor start to a season, questions were being asked about that stability of Juventus as a team. Questions about the management of the team were starting to grow. It was still early in the season to predict how it ends, but a poor start can cost you the title. For a team like Juventus, winning the Scudetto is a must.

After losing their tenth match of the league to Sassuolo, Juventus began a streak of win that will place them back into title contention. They went on a 15 games win streak, which took them to the top of the table.

Their 15th win from the winning streak was against Napoli. It was a title decider and felt like one. The match ended in a 1-0 win for Juventus, who were playing in front of their crowd. Simone Zaza late goal in the 88th minute was the decider. Juventus replaced Napoli on top of the league table and never looked back after that.

They couldn’t continue their winning streak, but they continued their undefeated streak to make sure their title defence was complete. Losing 2-1 to Hellas Verona in their last away match was what stopped Juventus from ending the season undefeated.

Is it safe to say that there will be six in a row for Juventus next season? With Paul Pogba and Paulo Dybala, Juventus has quality young talents to build their team around. By projection, they will never need to get another goalkeeper for the next century, Buffon will always be solid. 🙂
