World Cup Russia 2018 – The teams and players of ‘Group E’

Group E Briefing
Brazil
Qualified directly from the CONMEBOL – 1st place finish
Winners in 1958. 1962, 1970, 1994, 2002 – a record for the most FIFA World Cup titles
It isn’t a surprise that Brazil is always a title contender in a FIFA World Cup. Brazil was the first nation to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. They remain the only nation to feature in all 21 World Cups. In every major football tournament that Brazil is eligible to play, they’ve won a title. This will be Bazil’s 21st participation in the World Cup. They played as host in the 2014 FIFA World Cup and were knocked out of the tournament by Germany in the semi-final defeat that dented Brazilian football ego.

Switzerland
Qualified through play-offs from the UEFA
This will be Switzerland’s 11th participation in the World Cup(a fourth consecutive). Their last appearance was in 2014. Expectations would not be low for Switzerland in this group. They possess the talent to get out of this Group E.

Costa Rica
Qualified directly from the CONCACAF – 2nd place finish
This will be Costa Rica’s 5th participation in the World Cup, and a consecutive qualification to the tournament.
Costa Rica was a quarterfinalist in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. They shocked the football World by advancing from a group that included three former World Cup winners (Uruguay, Italy, England) without suffering a single defeat.
Could Costa Rica go on a better run in 2018?

Serbia
Qualified directly from the UEFA – ‘Group D’ winner
This will be Serbia’s 12th participation. Their last appearance was in the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
Serbia is considered the successor of the ‘Yugoslavia’ and ‘Serbia and Montenegro’ teams that participated in the past World Cups. It will be their second World Cup under the name ‘Serbia’.
