We’re off to the semifinal of the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League: Liverpool, Man City, Real Madrid, and Villarreal are the final four.

THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE QUARTERFINALS

The quarterfinal has set us up for an English Premier League vs Spanish La Liga in the semifinal of the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League.
We can have an all-English final or an all-Spanish final.
Manchester City will face Real Madrid, while Liverpool will face Villarreal.

April 12.
It was a good night for the teams from the Spanish La Liga.

REAL MADRID 2-3 CHELSEA (5-4 agg.)
Karim Benzema’s headed goal in extra time restored Real Madrid’s advantage.
Real Madrid lost on the night but advanced to the semifinal with a 5-4 win against the defending champions on aggregate.

BAYERN MUNICH 1-1 VILLARREAL (1-2 agg).
It was a draw on the night. Samuel Chukwueze scored the deciding goal in the 88th minute. Villarreal went from knocking out Juventus in Turin to knocking out Bayern Munich in Munich.

APRIL 13.
It was a night for the teams from the English Premier League.

The winners of the first leg were through after a draw in the second-legs of both matches.

ATLETICO MADRID 0-0 MANCHESTER CITY (0-1 agg.)
It was a narrow escape through the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium for Manchester City to reach the semifinal at Atletico Madrid’s expense.
The 1-0 win at home barely got Manchester City over the line.

Atletico Madrid will feel proud of their performance but also wonder what could have been if they had been more clinical with the scoring chances they got (especially in the second half).

LIVERPOOL 3-3 BENFICA (6-4 agg.)
Benfica fought back to get a draw for the record books but Liverpool moves on through their 3-1 win in Benfica.
Just like the first-leg, Ibrahima Konate headed in the opening goal from a corner kick to get Liverpool in the lead.
In the 66th minute, Liverpool took a comfortable 3-1 lead when Roberto Firmino added two second-half goals.
