The Women’s World Cup after the Group Stage. – Germany and Brazil are out, and one host nation is left, and the defending champions are not looking as strong as many would’ve expected. 

 

One host nation is out – New Zealand is out.
The other host nation survived – Australia is in the Round of 16.
Switzerland and Norway advanced with just a win.
Japan beat Spain to win Group C as both teams advanced.
England and Denmark did the expected advancing from Group D.
Netherlands win a group that included the United States.
France won a group that included Brazil.
United States scrapped to make it out of the group. Will they defend the title?
Germany failed to advance to the knockout stage.
Jamaica made history by advancing to the Round of 16 at Brazil’s expense.
South Africa get a late winning goal to advance to the knockout stage at Italy’s expense.
Morocco is the only team from the 8 debutantes to advance to the knockout stage. They beat Colombia to move on to the Round of 16 with them.
Sweden wins their group with a perfect winning record.

GROUP A: A goalless draw between Switzerland and New Zealand was enough to get Switzerland to advance as group winners, while eliminating New Zealand from the tournament.
Norway won their first game in the group by thrashing Philippines ‘6-0’. It was exactly what was needed to advance them to the round of 16.

GROUP B: Canada and Nigeria needed to avoid defeat in the final group game to advance. Nigeria got that in a goalless draw with Ireland, Canada was thrashed ‘4-0’ by Australia.

GROUP C: Spain and Japan had already advanced from Group C before the final game, but Japan won the group by thrashing Spain 4-0. Costa Rica and Zambia were already eliminated, but Zambia got to walk away with a 3-1 win.

GROUP D: England advanced as the group winners after beating China ‘6-1’. Denmark made their way to the Round of 16 by beating an eliminated Haiti.

GROUP E: Netherlands won Group E after a ‘7-0’ win over Vietnam, and a goalless draw with Portugal was good enough for United States to move on from the group.

GROUP F: Jamaica got the draw they needed to advance after playing a goalless draw with Brazil.
France won the group after a 9-goal game with Panama. It finished 6-3.

GROUP G: Sweden wins the group by beating Argentina.
Italy would’ve been fine with a draw, but conceded a late goal in the second minute of injury time to lose 3-2 to South Africa.

GROUP H: Germany failed to advance after a 1-1 draw with South Korea, while Morocco used a late first half goal from the penalty rebound to get a win against Colombia and advance with them.

Because of the mood swings that futbol can give us in a day, we are not too critical within 24hrs of a crushing defeat to any side.
