The Weekend Bangers – Teams looking to keep a perfect start and those looking for redemption.

August 31, 2018
AC Milan vs Roma (Italian Serie A)
Second league match for Milan and a third for Roma. Milan is coming into the match after allowing victory to slip out of their hands when they gave away a 2-goal lead in the second half to suffer defeat to Napoli. Roma is coming to the match after a disappointing start in their first home match of the season ended up costing them maximum points against Atalanta.

Lyon vs Nice (French Ligue 1)
Nice is winless after 3 matches and were humiliated at home by Dijon in a ‘4-1’ defeat. Lyon has high expectations for the season, but a shocking defeat to newly-promoted Reims has currently left Lyon 3 points short from contending with PSG in a title race. Pre-season expectations do not give room for Lyon to drop points, while Nice can’t start out the season winless after 4 rounds.

Leicester City vs Liverpool (English Premier League)
A win at home will allow Leicester to equal the point accumulated by Liverpool so far in the season. It’s been a perfect start for Liverpool; top of the English Premier League table after scoring 7 and conceding none in 3 matches.

Manchester City vs Newcastle United (English Premier League)
Manchester City was expected to run through their opening league fixtures with ease after winning their season opener against Arsenal. A draw against newly-promoted Wolverhampton has City in search of a victory to get back on the track to defend their Premier League title. Newcastle United is yet to win a league match.

Bologna vs Inter Milan (Italian Serie A)
Inter Milan is underachieving after two matches played. Inter needs to win away against a Bologna side that is also in need of their first victory of the season.

Celta Vigo vs Atletico Madrid (Spanish La Liga)
Atletico Madrid is not where they were predicted to be in the league table after dropping points in their opening match against Valencia. Celta Vigo is making improvement and wouldn’t be looking to discontinue their undefeated run at home.

September 2, 2018
Monaco vs Marseille (French Ligue 1)
A clash between top four contenders. Separated by goal-difference, both Monaco and Marseille are expected to finish the season amongst the top four teams. They’ve both suffered unexpected defeats early in the season and would be very far from standards to drop more points.

Burnley vs Manchester United (English Premier League)
Defeat to a Burnley side that has yet to win a match will be catastrophic for Manchester United. After a consecutive league defeat that includes a humiliating defeat at home to Tottenham, Manchester United can’t extend their winless run to three matches without facing some serious backlash.

Schalke vs Hertha Berlin (German Bundesliga)
A chance for Schalke to redeem themselves in front of home supporters. Hertha Berlin opened their season with a win at home against newly-promoted Nurnberg. Schalke opened their season with an away defeat to relegation-survivor Wolfsburg.

Watford vs Tottenham (English Premier League)
Two of the four teams in the Premier League that have had a perfect start to their season by winning all their opening 3 fixture. Watford will be hoping that home support will help their run continue, while Tottenham will be looking to continue their run to mark their presence as a title contender.
