- Anderlecht, AZ Alkmaar, Bodø/Glimt, Galatasaray, Lazio, and Slavia Prague got a winning start to their Europa League season at the expense of Ferencváros, Elfsborg, Porto, PAOK, Dynamo Kyiv, and Ludogorets Razgrad, respectively.
- Points were shared in a 1-all draw between Midtjylland and Hoffenheim, Manchester United and Twente, and Nice and Real Sociedad.
- Ruben van Bommel scored twice in AZ Alkmaar’s narrow 3-2 home win over Elfsborg.
- Jens Petter Hauge scored twice in Bodø/Glimt’s narrow 3-2 home win over Porto.
- Boulaye Dia scored twice for Lazio as his side took a 3-0 first-half lead to seal a win over Dynamo Kyiv.
- Max Moerstedt’s 90th-minute goal saved Hoffenheim from a defeat and denied Midtjylland a winning start at home.
- Four goals were scored in the second half after a goalless first half, with Galatasaray getting three of those goals to pick up three points in a 3-1 win over PAOK.
- Manchester United dropped points at home to Twente after giving up a first-half lead in the second half. Christian Eriksen put Manchester United into the lead with his goal in the 35th minute, which was leveled in the 68th minute by a goal from Sam Lammers.
- Evann Guessand failed to score from a penalty in the 55th minute, which would’ve handed Nice a home win over Real Sociedad. A 1-1 draw from the first half held, with Nice and Real Sociedad sharing the points.
- A goal in each half gave Slavia Prague a winning start away against Ludogorets Razgrad.
- Ferencváros pulled one back in the 86th minute after Anderlecht had gone a man down due to a red card, with Nilson Angulo picking up two yellow cards three minutes apart. The game ended in a 2-1 win for Anderlecht.

Meanwhile, Ajax, Braga, FCSB, Fenerbahçe, Lyon, Rangers, and Tottenham Hotspur were all winners, defeating Beşiktaş, Maccabi Tel Aviv, RFS, Union Saint-Gilloise, Olympiacos, Malmö FF, and Qarabağ, respectively.
- Rangers were the only away team to win on the day, securing a 2-0 win over Malmö FF.
- Aitor Paredes scored the equalizing goal in the 85th minute for Athletic Club, securing a 1-1 draw in Rome against Roma.
- Six goals were evenly split between Eintracht Frankfurt and Viktoria Plzeň. Plzeň came from a goal down to make it 1-1 in the first half, and then clawed back from two goals down in the second half to secure a 3-3 draw with two late goals (86’ and 90+3’).
- Despite going down to 10 men in the 8th minute, Tottenham took the lead four minutes later and went on to secure a 3-0 home win over Qarabağ to begin their campaign.
- Lyon started their campaign with a 2-0 home win over Olympiacos.
- Fenerbahçe got a winning start to the campaign at home with a victory over Union Saint-Gilloise.
- Mika Godts scored twice as Ajax cruised to a comfortable 4-0 home win against Beşiktaş to kick off their campaign.
- FCSB got a winning start at home over RFS, with Darius Olaru scoring twice in the second half to extend a 2-1 first-half lead.
- Braga came from behind to win 2-1 against Maccabi Tel Aviv, with Bruma scoring both goals to give them a winning start at home.
