Despite having the second leg of the Champions League semifinal on their minds, Real Madrid managed to prevent Getafe from earning any points to aid their relegation battle. Marco Asensio’s goal in the 70th minute secured a 1-0 win for Real Madrid.

A defeat to relegated Elche caused Atletico Madrid to slip from being one point ahead of Real Madrid to two points behind. As a result, Real Madrid moved up to 2nd place while Atletico Madrid fell to 3rd.
Relegated Elche handed Atletico Madrid their third defeat in 19 league games. The other two defeats came against Real Madrid and Barcelona. Fidel Chavez scored the only goal of the game in the 41st minute, securing a win for Elche against an Atletico Madrid side aiming to finish the season as the second-best team in the league.

Real Sociedad, being chased by Villarreal and Real Betis for their Champions League qualification spot, dropped two points in a 2-2 draw with Girona.

Villarreal hosted Athletic Club and secured a convincing 5-1 victory, moving five points clear in the race for Champions League qualification as things stand.

Sevilla continued their strong form with back-to-back league games scoring three goals and securing a win. After their 3-2 victory against Espanyol, they followed it up with a 3-0 away win against Valladolid.

Real Betis kept their Champions League qualification hopes alive with a win against Rayo Vallecano.
