Villarreal, Real Madrid, Real Betis, and Osasuna take the top four spots in the Spanish La Liga standings after 2 rounds played. All four clubs have a 100% winning record.

Barcelona, Rayo Vallecano, and Athletic Club are sitting right outside of the ‘top 4’ unbeaten.

Cadiz and Getafe are the only two clubs yet to register a point.
Sevilla is part of the 9 clubs that haven’t gotten their first win of the season.

A first-half red card was awarded to a player on both teams.
Rayo Vallecano in a 10 v10 picked up the first win of their season in a 2-0 away win against Espanyol after starting the season with a big point against Barcelona at Camp Nou.

Sevilla avoided a second defeat in as many matches as Karim Rekik took advantage of a defensive error to get his side a goal in the 86th minute to cancel Valladolid’s 80th-minute lead from Anuar’s goal. After defeat in the opening game of the season against Osasuna, Sevilla dropped more points in a 1-1 draw at home against Valladolid.


Osasuna starts the season with consecutive victories by following a 2-1 opening day win against Sevilla with a 2-0 win against Cadiz.

Borja Iglesias’s goals from the penalty spot handed Real Betis another win.
Iglesias scored his first penalty in the 9th minute to give Real Betis an early lead. His second was in the 73rd minute to restore the lead after Mallorca got a leveler in the 56th minute.

Luka Modric played an instrumental role in Real Madrid’s second victory of the season. Modric scored the game-winning goal and assisted the goal that doubled Real Madrid’s lead. Real Madrid made it two wins from two by following a 2-1 away win against Almeria with a 4-1 away win against Celta Vigo.

Athletic Club got the first win of the season after a narrow 1-0 win against Valencia.

Atletico Madrid suffer their first defeat of the season in their first home game, while Villarreal doubled the wins despite starting their season with both of their matches away from home. Yeremi Pino scored the winning goal in the 73rd minute before Gerard Moreno doubled the lead deep into added time.

Robert Lewandowski scored his first and his second goal for Barcelona on his birthday as Barcelona went on to win their first league game of the new season.
Ansu Fati came off the bench in the 64th minute and assisted two goals within his first four minutes to get Barcelona their winning goal and the insurance goal for their first league win of the new season. Fati went on to score the final goal of the match for a 4-1 Barcelona win against Real Sociedad.

A 10-man Almeria kept a 1- I draw to take their first point since promotion
Girona bounced from defeat in the opening round with a 3-1 win against Getafe.
