Cadiz – after 14 years

Huesca – an immediate return

Elche – back after 5 years (2014/15 season). Just two seasons ago (2017/18) they were in third tier of Spanish football.



Espanyol, Mallorca, and Leganes are being replaced by Cadiz, Huesca and Elche

Huesca won the Segunda Division by a point over Cadiz.
Huesca and Cadiz secured direct promotion to the first division.
Zaragoza, Almeria, Girona, and Elche finished in the play-off round.

6th-place Elche knocked out 3rd-place Zaragoza
5th-place Girona knocked out 4th-place Almeria.

Elche picked up a win on the road to secure promotion to the top division.

They finished in the last available spot for the promotion playoffs and still made it.

Leeds United – back in the Premier League for the first time since 2003/04 season.
West Bromwich Albion – Back in the Premier League for the first time since 2017/18 season.
Fulham – return immediately to the Premier League after relegation in the 2018/19 season.

Norwich City, Watford, Bournemouth are being replaced by Leeds United, West Bromwich Albion, and Fulham.

Leeds were champions.
West Bromwich Albion narrowly escaped Brentford to secure direct promotion with Leeds United.

Brentford, Fulham, Cardiff City, and Swansea City fell in the promotion play-offs.

3rd-place Brentford and 4th-place Fulham won their respective matches by a 3-2 aggregate against 6th-place Swansea City and 5th-place Cardiff City.

Spezia – playing in Serie A for the first time in their history.


SPAL, Brescia, and Lecce are being replaced by Benevento, Crotone, and Spezia.

It was fitting that 3rd-place Spezia became the third team to seal promotion to Serie A.

The play-off finals between 3rd-place Spezia and 8th-place Frosinone ended in a 1-1 tie after two legs. The higher ranked team advanced as the rules suggest.
