Domestic Leagues

The highlighted fixtures for the coming weekend in Europe’s top seven leagues:

The round of league games over the previous weekend saw Manchester City (Premier League), PSV Eindhoven (Eredivisie), and RB Leipzig (Bundesliga) suffer their first league defeats of the season, while Southampton (Premier League), Holstein Kiel (Bundesliga), and RKC Waalwijk (Eredivisie) secured their first league wins of the season.

As we head into the weekend, Bochum (Bundesliga), Ipswich Town (Premier League), and Wolverhampton Wanderers (Premier League) are now the only teams in Europe’s top seven leagues without a league win, while Bayern Munich (Bundesliga), Juventus (Serie A), Paris Saint-Germain (Ligue 1), and Sporting CP (Primeira Liga) remain unbeaten.

HIGHLIGHTED FIXTURES

November 8:

Marseille vs. Auxerre (French Ligue 1)
Marseille is second in the league, tied on points with third-placed Monaco after 10 rounds of the Ligue 1 season. They aim to keep up the pace in the title race with Paris Saint-Germain and solidify their position by picking up a home win against an Auxerre side fresh off a 4-0 win over Rennes.

November 9:

Real Madrid vs. Osasuna (Spanish La Liga)
Real Madrid’s last league game was an El Clasico defeat to Barcelona. They now have a game in hand but 9 points behind Barcelona in the standings. They play Osasuna this weekend, with three points separating the two teams.

Villarreal vs. Alavés (Spanish La Liga)
Villarreal is two points and positions behind second-placed Real Madrid in the standings after 12 rounds, with both teams holding a game in hand. Villarreal will take on Alavés this weekend.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs. Manchester City (English Premier League)
Manchester City is coming off their first league defeat of the season, a 2-1 loss to Bournemouth, and will look to bounce back with a visit to Brighton, who also lost in their last round against Liverpool.

Liverpool vs. Aston Villa (English Premier League)
Liverpool may be flying high, but Aston Villa is widely tipped as a dark horse in the title race. Liverpool leads the Premier League title race after 10 rounds, ahead by two points, and they will host an Aston Villa side coming off a 4-1 defeat against Tottenham.

Juventus vs. Torino (Italian Serie A)
The Turin derby has generally been one-sided, but Juventus will look to add to their points tally with a home win over Torino. Torino has just one win and five losses from their last six games, so expectations aren’t high, but football can always surprise.

Bochum vs. Bayer Leverkusen (German Bundesliga)
Bochum’s chase for their first win of the season continues as they host a Bayer Leverkusen side trying to find form in their title defense. Leverkusen is 7 points off the top after nine games, largely due to numerous draws.

St. Pauli vs. Bayern Munich (German Bundesliga)
St. Pauli will be at home, aiming to build on their recent win over Hoffenheim by attempting the unlikely—securing a point or even three against a Bayern Munich side that extended their lead in the Bundesliga title race to three points, and remains the league’s only unbeaten club this season.

RB Leipzig vs. Borussia Mönchengladbach (German Bundesliga)
After falling three points behind in the title race following their first league defeat, a 2-1 loss to Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig will look to rebound with a win against Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Strasbourg vs. Monaco (French Ligue 1)
Monaco was unbeaten in the league just two rounds ago but has since suffered consecutive defeats (2-1 to Nice and 1-0 to Angers). They’ll hope to rebound with a result against a Strasbourg side that coming from a 2-0 defeat to Saint-Étienne.

Angers vs. Paris Saint-Germain (French Ligue 1)
Paris Saint-Germain holds a 6-point lead in the Ligue 1 title race, which they will aim to expand or at least maintain with a win against an Angers side hovering above the relegation zone.

NAC Breda vs. PSV Eindhoven (Dutch Eredivisie)
PSV Eindhoven suffered their first league defeat of the season in the last round, losing to Ajax. They’ll look to bounce back by securing points against recently-promoted NAC Breda.

November 1o:

Mallorca vs. Atlético Madrid (Spanish La Liga)
Atlético will be away against Mallorca, seeking a win to maintain their position in the standings. Currently, Atlético trails only Barcelona and Real Madrid—a position that aligns with typical expectations for the club.

Real Sociedad vs. Barcelona (Spanish La Liga)
After 12 rounds, Barcelona leads the top half of the La Liga standings, while Real Sociedad tops the bottom half. There is an 18-point gap between the two. The two teams will face each other this weekend, with many expectating Barcelona to maintain their form with another league win.

Nottingham Forest vs. Newcastle United (English Premier League)
Ten rounds in, Nottingham Forest sits third in the standings, with only Manchester City and Liverpool above them. Forest will aim to hold their position with home support against a Newcastle side coming off a win over Arsenal.

Chelsea vs. Arsenal (English Premier League)
Chelsea has struggled against the traditional top teams this season, so what will they do against Arsenal? A London derby awaits. Arsenal has managed just one point from their last two league games, coming off a loss to Newcastle. Chelsea has also dropped points recently, with defeats to Manchester City and Liverpool, and they drew 1-1 with Manchester United.

Atalanta vs. Udinese (Italian Serie A)
Udinese is staring down a potential third straight league defeat as they head to Bergamo. Atalanta is three points off the top of Serie A and will look to build on their recent win over Napoli with another victory against Udinese.

Fiorentina vs. Hellas Verona (Italian Serie A)
Fiorentina sits three points from the top of the Serie A standings, and a win over Hellas Verona would keep them in the title race or even improve their position. They’ll look to capitalize on the results from the Inter vs. Napoli fixture.

Inter Milan vs. Napoli (Italian Serie A)
The defending champions host the league leaders, with only a point separating the two. Inter Milan will host Napoli, knowing a win could push them to the top. Napoli is coming off a 3-0 home defeat against Atalanta, making this a crucial fixture. A draw would keep Napoli at the top, but their slim 1-point lead could be under threat from multiple teams, not just Inter.

Nice vs. Lille (French Ligue 1)
Lille, aiming for a top-four finish, holds a 2-point lead over Nice. Nice, however, could erase that gap with a home win over Lille.

Lyon vs. Saint-Étienne (French Ligue 1)
Lyon is without a win in their last two league games, having dropped four points in consecutive draws. They will host a Saint-Étienne side coming off a 2-0 win over Strasbourg.

Almere City vs. Feyenoord (Dutch Eredivisie)
Twente vs. Ajax (Dutch Eredivisie)
Ajax has been building momentum in the Eredivisie. A surprise defeat to NAC Breda and a 1-1 draw with Go Ahead Eagles are the only games they’ve dropped points in this season. Currently on a 5-game winning streak, having beaten both Feyenoord and PSV, they’ll look to add Twente to the list.

Braga vs. Sporting CP (Portuguese Primeira Liga)
Benfica vs. Porto (Portuguese Primeira Liga)
The top four teams in the Primeira Liga after 10 rounds—Sporting CP, Porto, Benfica, and Braga—will face each other this weekend.
Sporting CP, with a 100% win rate this season, will aim for an 11th consecutive win by taking three points away at Braga.
Benfica, with a game in hand, is five points behind Porto in the standings. A home win would put them within two points of Porto, plus the potential three points from their pending fixture.
