Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund were both on the losing end.
The newly crowned champions followed their celebration with a 3-1 defeat at Mainz, while Erling Haaland’s hattrick failed to stop Dortmund from being on the wrong end of a 4-2 scoreline against Bochum.
Union Berlin came from a goal down to get a 1-1 draw at home to avoid defeat against relegated Greuther Furth.
Leverkusen closed in on second place with a win against Frankfurt after moving up a position to 4th when their 4-3 victory at Hoffenheim was matched with a RB Leipzig defeat against Monchengladbach.
The defeat dropped RB Leipzig a position down to 5th; allowing for FC Koln and Union Berlin to close in on them.
