The French Ligue 1 after 9 rounds; Paris St. Germain suffered their first defeat

LIGUE 1

Paris St. Germain’s defeat allowed Lens’ victory in the opening match of the round to cut the lead at the top down to 6 points.

Marseille with a game in hand is with three other teams on 14 points.
Monaco moved up two positions to 6th. Angers moved up a position to fourth with a win against Metz. Nice with a match in hand to complete moved up a position to 3rd to replace Marseille who dropped to 5th.
Lyon dropped out of the top half of the standings from 7th to 11th.

The occupants of the bottom six positions stayed the same.

LENS 2-0 REIMS
Arnaud Kalimuedno Muinga’s goals won Lens the game against Reims to make it a successive league win. It was an unfortunate end to the first half for Reims; as they went down a man after Hugo Ekitike got sent off on a red card and the resulting penalty for the foul was converted into the opening goal of the match to get Lens on track to the 2-0 victory.

MONTPELLIER 1-1 STRASBOURG
Not much between Montpellier and Strasbourg. They both picked up a point on the back of defeats.

NICE 2-1 BREST
Brest was kept winless after a 2-1 defeat at Nice. Nice took the victory to keep their place in contention for Champions League football qualification.

RENNES 2-0 PARIS ST. GERMAIN
Paris St. Germain’s winning/unbeaten run came to an end at Rennes. A goal at the end of the first and another at the opening minute of the second half got Rennes a memorable 2-0 win at home against a PSG side that was looking to make it 9 wins from 9.

ANGERS 3-2 METZ
Stephane Bahoken scored a late winning goal to gather all three points for Angers after coming from a goal down on two occasions to avoid defeat to a Metz side that was looking to double their wins in the league after picking up their first victory in the last round of games (against Brest). The result ended a run of 4 games without a win for Angers.

LORIENT 1-1 CLERMONT FOOT
Lorient moved from a point against Lyon to another point against Clermont Foot.

MONACO 3-0 BORDEAUX
A 3-0 win at home against Bordeaux marked a third win in a row for Monaco in Ligue 1; scoring three goals in each of those fixtures.

NANTES 2-0 TROYES
It was a close contest but Nantes bounced back from their defeat against Reims with a 2-0 win against Troyes. Troyes remains with a win in the 9 rounds.

LILLE 2-0 MARSEILLE
Jonathan David’s goals secured three points for Lille, and a third straight league win( their longest streak since being Ligue 1 champions).

SAINT-ETIENNE 1-1 LYON
Wahbi Khazri converted a late penalty to prevent a Saint-Etienne defeat but his side had to remain without a win after 9 rounds of the season.
