The EURO 2020 after the ‘Round of 16’ : The teams from the supposed ‘Group of Death’ could not live long enough to reach the quarterfinals.

THE TEAMS FROM THE ‘GROUP OF DEATH’ ARE OUT.
The defending champions and the last two world champions have been knocked out at the ‘Round of 16’ stage of the competition. (PORTUGAL, FRANCE, AND GERMANY are all OUT of the Euro 2020.)

WALES 0-4 DENMARK
Denmark have gone from losing their star player in the first game, and suffering defeat in their opening two matches to clinching a spot in the quarterfinals.
The type of results that will make Christian Eriksen smile.

Joahim Maehle and Martin Braitwaite scored in the dying minutes of the match to add to Kasper Dolberg’s brace for Denmark to move to the quarter finals with a 4-0 win over Wales.

 

 

ITALY 2-1 AUSTRIA
Extra time was needed to separate Italy and Austria after playing out a goalless draw during the regulation time.

Italy’s second half substitutes won the game for them against Austria. – Chiesa and Pessina ended up the goalscorers for italy.
Matteo Pessina came into the game in the 67th minute fr Nicolo Barella, and Federico Chiesa came into the game in the 84th minute for Domenico Berardi.

Cheisa opened the scoring 5 minutes into extra-time, and Pessina scored the eventual winning goal in the final minute of the first half of the extra time.

 

NETHERLANDS 0-2 CZECH REPUBLIC
Tomas Holes scored the winner and assisted the game-killing goal for Czech Republic to knock out Netherlands and give us the first upset of the competition.

Czech Republic moved into the quarter final stage of the competition after taking a 2-0 win against a 10-man Dutch team.
Matthijs de Ligt was sent off in the 52nd minute after handling the ball to stop a goalscoring opportunity to Czech Republic. This left Netherland with a numerical disadvantage that began costing them when the Czechs took the lead in the 68th minute.

BELGIUM 1-0 PORTUGAL
Thorgan Hazard’s strike sent Belgium into the quarterfinals and eliminated the defending champions.

 

CROATIA 3-5 SPAIN
FRANCE 3-3 SWITZERLAND (4-5)pen.

Extra time was needed in both matches, and Spain and Switzerland moved on to the quarterfinals.
Both games went through an identical path during the regulation time
Croatia and Switzerland both gave up a lead to trail by two goals, and they both made up the difference within the final ten minutes to force extra time with a ‘3- 3’ score.

 

FRANCE 3-3 SWITZERLAND (4-5)pen.
France couldn’t get back their goal lead in the extra time. They ended up in a penalty shootout with Switzerland and lost through a Kylian Mbappe’s miss on the fifth kick.

 

CROATIA 3-5 SPAIN
Unlike Switzerland, Croatia was unable to use the extra time to their advantage.
Spain made extra time count by getting two goals in the opening half to restore their lead and beat Croatia.

Against the run of play, Spain gave away a lead to Croatia. But in the end, they restored their two goal lead in the extra-time to advance to the quarterfinals.
They bounced back to end up blowing a 2- goal lead in the final minutes of the match.

 

 

 

No matter the form of the Germans, facing them isn’t what any team will want to do when there could have been other options.

ENGLAND 2- 0 GERMANY
England passed the German test to reach the quarterfinals.
Raheem Sterling opened the scoring for the match in the 73rd minute to get England the winning goal.

Harry Kane scored about ten minutes later to kill the game off.
Thomas Muller had the best chance to score the equalizing goal for Germany, but drifted his shot slightly
wide.

It was a close contest that could have gone either way.
Germany’s defeat meant all the teams from ‘Group F’ are eliminated.

Extra time was needed to separate Ukraine and Sweden

SWEDEN 1- 2 Ukraine
Ukraine beat 10-man Sweden in extra time to meet England in the quarterfinals.
Ukraine became quarterfinalist in the Euro for the first time ever when Artem Dovbyk scored at the death.
