A Merseyside derby win for Everton was unlikely, and the odds became worse when Ashley Young picked up two yellow cards in teh opening 37 minutes to leave the side playing the remainder of the fixture with a numerical disadvantage. Mohamed Salah scored both goals for Liverpool to defeat a 10-man Everton in the Merseyside derby, and open a 13-point gap between the two.

Taking the lead didn’t prevent Bournemouth from suffering a defeat at home to Wolves. Bournemouth remained without a league win after a 2-1 defeat to Wolves.

Newly-promoted Burnley continued to struggle as they were defeated 3-0 by a struggling Brentford side.

Manchester City and Brighton, both known for their attacking prowess, had not won in their last two league games. MAnchester City ended their poor run by extending Brighton’s. It finished a ‘2-1’ home win for Manchester City.

Newcastle secured a comfortable 4-0 win at home against Crystal Palace. The job was mostly done in the first half when Newcastle took a 3-0 lead into the break.

Luton avoided defeat with two late goals to cancel out Chris Wood’s brace, preventing Nottingham Forest from securing a third league win.

It appeared that Chelsea would end Arsenal’s unbeaten start to the season until Chelsea found a way to squander a two-goal lead at home, ultimately settling for a point against Arsenal. Arsenal was looking to stay unbeaten in the league and build on their victory over Manchester City by beating Chelsea, while Chelsea was hoping to build on the traction from recent wins, after a difficult start to the season.

On the day of the passing of the legendary Sir Bobby Charlton, Manchester United fought hard to secure an away win over Sheffield United. Diogo Dalot’s wonder-strike decided the game, giving Manchester United a 2-1 victory. The result kept Sheffield United without a league win.

Douglas Luiz’s brace was the foundation for Aston Villa’s ‘4-1’ win against West Ham.
