Nine games of the EFL Cup were played the previous week—Brighton, Brentford, Crystal Palace, Manchester United, Preston North End, Sheffield Wednesday, Southampton, Stoke, and Tottenham were the winners.

All Premier League clubs advanced in this week’s EFL Cup games, except for three. Two unavoidable eliminations took place as Everton fell to Southampton and West Ham lost to Liverpool. Additionally, Fulham was knocked out after a defeat to Preston North End.

Six of the seven remaining spots in the next round of the EFL Cup are already booked. The only spot left to be decided is between Wimbledon and Newcastle United, with the game scheduled to be played on October 1, 2024.

Arsenal and Liverpool were both 5-1 winners, advancing in the EFL Cup at the expense of Bolton and West Ham United, respectively. Leicester City advanced through a penalty shootout against Walsall after a goalless draw. Chelsea and Manchester City secured home wins to progress against Barrow and Watford, respectively, while Aston Villa earned an away victory against Wycombe.
