The only thing Marseille had over Lorient was a draw(a point). After a winless start to their season, both teams were looking for their first win of the 2015/16 Ligue 1 season.

With the rich history Marseille has gathered in recent years, and to be playing in front of their home crowd, the pressure was on Marseille to get three points from this match.

Remy Cabella opened the scoring for Marseille in the 19th to calm down some of the nerves. But it was Bafetimbi Gomis goal in the 70th minute that gave the home team the assurance that they were going to get a win out of this match.

It wasn’t what we expected, but football always gives us the shock. Dijon had to come back twice to win against one of the title favorites in Ligue 1.

Nancy              0-2       Guingamp

Mustapha Diallo 59’
Thibault Giresse 79’
It might be too early to call it, but Nancy is struggling in Ligue 1 and might just be heading back down. It is also too early to call it, but Guingamp is looking like title contenders.

Guingamp delivered to Nancy their third defeat of the 2016/17 Ligue 1 season. Two second half goals from Mustapha Diallo in the 59th minute and Thibault Giresse in the 79th was enough to down Nancy. A late penalty miss from Youssouf Hadji could have made the scoreline look a bit respectable.

Montpellier                           1-1                    Rennes

Daniel Congre 22’                                Adama Diakhaby 65’

They came to this match with an identical record to their start of the season and left keeping it that way. After winning a match and losing another, this was a chance for these two teams to separate themselves in points on the table.

Playing in front of the home fans and getting an early lead in the 22nd minute gave Montpellier an advantage they took into the break. But about 20 minutes after the restart, Rennes leveled it to see the match off as a draw.

Nice                           1-1                 Lille

Vincent Koziello 4’                 Franck Beria 27’

Nice remains undefeated in league after a home draw against Nice.
Vincent Koziello early goal in the 4th minute for Nice was canceled out by Franck Beria’s goal for Lille in the 27th minute.

Caen                   2-0               Bastia

Julien Feret 64’
Herve Bazile 90’+3

Even with a first-half penalty miss, Caen was able to get a win over Bastia. After a goalless first half, the winning goal came from Julien Feret in the 64th-minute goal for Caen separate themselves from Bastia.

Metz                          2-0             Angers

Guido Milan 89’

Angers is still searching for a win and a point in the 2016/17 Ligue 1 season, after losing to newly promoted FC Metz. Metz got their second win in three matches, and their only loss was to the defending champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Bordeaux            1 – 0          Nantes

Diego Rolan 32’

Nantes is sitting right at the end of the relegation battle zone on the Ligue 1 table after losing their second consecutive league match.

Diego Rolan’s first half goal was the match winner for Bordeaux.

Saint-Etienne 0-0 Toulouse

Toulouse remains undefeated after a goalless match away to Saint-Etienne. The draw gives Toulouse a point over Saint-Etienne on the league table.

Monaco                          3-1          Paris Saint-Germain

Joao Moutinho 13’                 Edinson Cavani 63’
Fabinho 45’+2
Serge Aurier 80’ (o.g)

When we thought the gap was too big for other teams to contend for the Ligue 1 title, Monaco defeated Paris Saint-Germain to send us a reminder that all teams are beatable.

597185330

Unai Emery suffered his first defeat as PSG manager in Ligue 1 as defending champions suffered their first defeat of the season in their third match. Despite Monaco being on of the few teams that are expected to put up a fight for the title, PSG’s recent dominance in domestic competitions made this a shocking scoreline.

597184490

Monaco knew what they were against, and were tactically prepared to battle the offensive pressure from PSG.

It was a great first half for Monaco, as they went into the break two goals up. Joao Moutinho put the home side ahead with a goal in the 13th minute and Fabinho doubled the lead with a penalty at the end of the half.597185192

Things got interesting when Edinson Cavani pulled a goal back for PSG. The relentless press for an equalizer created gaps for a counter attack against PSG. It was on a Monaco counter attack when Serge Aurier re-directed a cross to the back of his own net and doubling the lead for Monaco.

Do we have a contest in Ligue 1?
