FRENCH LIGUE 1 – Round 8

Lille lost the top spot in the league standings after dropping points against Nice.

Paris St. Germain extended their winning streak and took advantage of Lille’s dropped points.
Paris St. Germain claim top spot at the end of Round 8. 

Precautions for the pandemic postponed the match between Lens and Nantes.
Rennes opened the round with a defeat at home against Angers. The dropped points allowed Marseille to equal them in points and Nice to move a point away.
Bordeaux and Angers moved into the top half of the league table.

Monaco and Montpellier moved out of the top half.
The bottom three teams remain as they are. Strasbourg and Reims improved by picking up points, while bottom table Dijon picked up no points and stayed winless.

  • Rennes suffered their first defeat of the season after Angelo Fulgini’s 56th-minute goal allowed Angers to complete a comeback from a goal down and win away against Rennes.

  • A ‘1-0’ away win against Lorient allowed Marseille to make it a back-to-back victory in Ligue 1 after 4 matches without a win. Lorient on the other hand made a quick return to their winless ways after breaking a 5-winless streak in the last round.

  • Mosie Kean and Kylian Mbappe shared the goalscoring (2 goals each) for Paris St Germain to pick up another league win in their title defense.

  • Lens vs Nantes was postponed.

  • Bordeaux finally broke Nimes down in the final 10 minutes of regulation time to win 2-0 at home.
    Strasbourg beat Brest to end a streak of three defeats.

  • 4 straight losses for Saint-Etienne after getting a 2-0 beating at Metz.

  • Boylaye Dia scored 3 goals (2 from the penalty spot) for Reims to pick up their first win of the season through a 4-0 win against Montpellier. Montpellier were down three goals and 2 men (red card) by the end of the first 45 minutes.

  • A ‘1-1’ draw at Nice keeps Lille’s unbeaten run going in Ligue 1.

  • Monaco pulled one back in the second half but the Lyon completed the task in the first half by grabbing 4 goals. Karl Toko Ekambu contributed 2 goals to Lyon’s 4-1 win against Monaco. A successive league win for Lyon while stretching Monaco’s winless run to three successive matches.
