PREMIER LEAGUE

 

Mar 1.
Arsenal [ 4-0 ] Everton (Premier League)
Liverpool [ 2-0 ] Wolves (Premier League)

+3 points in the league for both Arsenal and Liverpool.
A 4-0 win over Everton puts Arsenal 5 points clear at the top of the Premier League standings, while Liverpool moved to 6th with a win against Wolves.


 

COUPE de FRANCE – QUARTERFINALS

 

Feb 28.
Lyon [ 2-1 ] Grenoble

Mar 1.
Nantes [ 2-1 ] Lens
Toulouse [ 6-1 ] Rodez
Marseille [ 2-2 ] Annecy*

Two goals in the opening half were enough to get Lyon to the semifinal.

Andy Delort converted from the penalty spot on two occasions to advance Nantes from a goal down to a 2-1 win against Lens.

Toulouse left no doubt about the outcome of the match. They were 5-0 up at halftime in a 6-1 win over Rodez.

Marseille knocked out Paris St. Germain in the Round of 16, just to lose at home against Annecy in a penalty shootout. Francois Mughe’s goal in the 6th minute of the final added time saved Marseille from a 2-1 defeat in regulation time. Annecy advanced to the semifinal with a 7-6 pko win.

On paper, Lyon would be tipped as the favorite to win the Coupe de France after the quarterfinal results, but we can’t count out defending champions Nantes.

FA CUP – ROUND 5

Mar 1.
Southampton [ 1-2 ] Grimsby
Burnley [ 1-0 ] Fleetwood
Manchester United [ 3-1 ] West Ham
Sheffield United [ 1-0 ] Tottenham

Brighton takes a 1-0 win away at Stoke to advance.
Fulham used a 2-0 win at home to advance at Leeds United’s expense.
Burnley advanced through a 1-0 win over Fleetwood Town.

Manchester City eventually added more goals to make the score look as many would’ve expected it to look against Bristol City.

Gavan Holhan scored a penalty at the end of the first half and another 5 minutes into the second half to get Grimsby the goal to eliminate Southamapint through a 2-1 win at the St. Mary’s Stadium.

Manchester United had to come from a goal down to advance with through a 3-1 win against West Ham.

The highlighted results of the round was Blackburn knocking out Leicester City at Leicester, and Sheffield United knocking out Tottenham.

COPA DEL REY (Semifinal)

 

Advantage Osasuna and Barcelona.

OSASUNA 1-0 ATHLETIC CLUB: Oasuana got a 1-0 lead at home in the first leg of the Copa del Rey final.

REAL MADRID 0-1 BARCELONA: Barcelona will be at home and a goal up in the second leg of the Copa del Rey. Eder Militao’s own goal in the 26th minute decided the match for Barcelona to win another El Clasico.


 

KNVB CUP QUARTERFINALS

 

Feb 28.

PSV Eindhoven [ 3-1 ] ADO Den Haag 
De Graafschap [ 0-3 ] Ajax 


Spakenburg, Feyenoord, PSV Eindhoven, and Ajax are off to the semifinals of the KNVB CUP.

Tweede Divisie (third-tier) Sapeknburg traveled to Utrecht to knock out Eredivisie side FC Utrecht in the opening match of the quarterfinals by 4 goals to 1.
Fortunately (or unfortunately), that was the only upset of the quarterfinals.
With Ajax, Feyenoord, and PSV Eindhoven still in the cup, there is a good chance for a ‘league double’ for one of the teams.
