Midweek Bangers – The Europa League, La Liga, and more

Midweek football – the opening round of the 2024/25 Europa League season, domestic league football in Spain, domestic cup football in England and in England.

EUROPA LEAGUE

The Europa League kicks off on Wednesday and continues into Thursday. Traditional heavyweights like Manchester United, AZ Alkmaar, Galatasaray, and Anderlecht are among the teams hosting matches on Wednesday.

On Thursday, teams such as Ajax, Roma, Malmö, Lyon, and Tottenham will host their games.

This season features the new UEFA Europa League format. All 36 teams are placed in a single table. After 8 rounds of games, the top 8 teams will advance directly to the Round of 16. The next 16 teams in the standings will compete in a knockout playoff for a place in the Round of 16, while the remaining 12 teams will be eliminated.

COPPA ITALIA

Torino and Empoli will face off, ensuring that at least one Serie A team won’t advance to the Round of 16.
