This is how the group stage ended.
ELIMINATED: France, South Africa, Romania, Honduras, Argentina, Australia, Germany, and Saudi Arabia.

GROUP A
Japan won Group A with a 100% win rate. They thrashed France by 4 goals to nil in the final round.
The teams that needed a win in Group A ended up losing. France and South Africa were beaten by Japan and Mexico [respectively]

Mexico and South Africa ended the tie with a man sent off on both sides. Mexico took a 3- 0 win against South Africa to advance to the quarterfinals as runner-up.

 

GROUP B
Ui-Jo Hwang scored half of the goals for South Korea handed Honduras a 6- 0 defeat to keep Honduras at the bottom of Group B. The result meant that New Zealand did need to do any more than get a point from a draw to advance. New Zealand played a goalless draw with Romania.

 

GROUP C
Egypt used a 2- 0 win against Australia to get their place in the quarterfinals.
Argentina was denied qualification after a 1-1 draw with Spain after the Egyptian win made a draw inadequate for Argentina.
Egypt started the day at the bottom of the group standings and finished as a quarterfinalist.

 

GROUP D
Brazil wins Group D after beating eliminated Saudi Arabia 3-1.
A german own-goal sent Ivory Coast to the quarterfinals. Germany recovered with a free kick goal about five minutes after putting themselves a goal down, but it wasn’t the win they needed to get a place in the quarterfinals.
