Two first half goals gave Real Betis a home win over Las Palmas.  

It was a win that ended two consecutive defeats for Real Betis and brought the team two points away from Las Palmas in the league standings.

From what we’ve seen so far in the season, this was the result we expected. But by the end of the first half of this fixture, we were looking at a potential upset.

After going into the break down two goals, three second half goals that included two late goals gave allowed Sevilla to come from behind and get an important away win against Deportivo La Coruna.

Barcelona dropped more points in the 2016/17 La Liga season.

Carlos Kameni goalkeeping heroics denied Barcelona a chance to close the gap with Real Madrid.  Malaga left Camp Nou with a valued point.  

Two Malaga players were suspended by the end of the match, something the fans wouldn’t mind since the team achieved their objective.

Eibar                                                       1-0                        Celta Vigo

Fran Rico 10’

Eibar got a home win to move up a point above Celta Vigo in the league standings.

Fran Rico’s early goal was the only goal of the match.

Atletico Madrid                                       0-3                       Real Madrid

A Cristiano Ronaldo hattrick gave Real Madrid the bragging rights after the Madrid Derby.

In the last Madrid Derby at the Estadio Vicente Calderon, Real Madrid came out on top.

While their archrival Barcelona was dropping points at home to Malaga, Real Madrid was picking points away from their city rivals. It is looking like a season that Real Madrid can grab on to the league title after four seasons without it.

The good news for Atletico Madrid and their fans is that they won’t have to stay in that stadium after this season. They can start a new record and make it a better one.

Gerard Moreno made up for a penalty miss by netting the winning goal to give Espanyol a very important win over newly-promoted Alaves.

Valencia                                  1-1               Granada

Valencia still has some work to do to get back to their expected position in the La Liga.

A fourth consecutive winless match for Valencia after a ‘1-1’ home draw against Granada.  More than a draw was expected from Valencia in this fixture. Granada is the only side in the 2016/17 La Liga season that is yet to secure a win.

This was a bigger point for Granda than Valencia.  

Sporting Gijon                             1-3                    Real Sociedad

The story of their season so far made this the expected outcome from this fixture. Two second half goals gave Real Sociedad an away win over Sporting Gijon.

Athletic Club                                 1-0                 Villarreal

Raul Garcia 68’

Raul Garcia’s second half goal for Athletic Club handed Villarreal their second defeat of the 2016/17 La Liga season.  A victory would have allowed Villarreal to move up into third place in the league standings.

Athletic Club, on the other hand, moved up to 7th place, just two points away from Villarreal.

A brace from Robert Ibanez gave Leganes a home win over relegation-threatened Osasuna; a team that has been able to manage just a win in the league after 12 rounds.
