Both teams started the match with equal points on the league table. A first half goal from Joaquin was enough to give Real Betis their second win of the season and pull them three points away from Malaga.

Everything went wrong for Real Sociedad. They went down a man in the 24th minute after Aritz Elustondo was sent off with a red card. Luckily for Sociedad, Pedro Leon failed to convert the penalty kick into a goal after a woeful miss.

After a goalless first half, it took a deflected shot on Asier Illarramendi to give Eibar their opening goal.  Bebe doubled the lead for Eibar 9 minutes later to finish the match at 2-0

The win pulls Eibar three points away from Real Sociedad after starting the match with equal points on the league table.

 

Sporting Gijon         0-5          Barcelona

Barcelona gave Sporting Gijon a third straight loss in the 2016/17 La Liga season.

Neymar scored two goals to give a ‘Messi-less’ Barcelona a 5-0 away win over Sporting Gijon. It was a win that kept the team on the heels of Real Madrid.  

Barcelona finished the first 2-0 up.  After Sporting Gijon was reduced to 10-men in the 74th minute, Barcelona took advantage of the spaces and scored three more goals in the final 10 minutes of regular time.

Manchester City’s loanee Samir Nasri scored for Sevilla as they were defeated Athletic Club.  Two goals in the second half sent Athletic Club a point over Sevilla on the league table.

Las Palmas helped the chasing pack by stopping Real Madrid from securing maximum points. Sergio Ezequiel Araujo’s goal in the 85th minute was the game changer.

Real Madrid remains undefeated and Las Palmas is still hanging up there on the league table in positions that could qualify them for a European competition is they can keep up their performance for 32 more matches.

The draw brings Madrid a point away from FC Barcelona.

Is this a start of a winning streak for Valencia?

Valencia went from winning no matches to winning two matches in a row. Their two wins came against newly promoted sides, but Valencia will take any win at this point.

 

An own goal and a penalty gave Valencia this win.

 

Atletico Madrid                         1-0          Deportivo La Coruna

It was an important win for Atletico Madrid to keep up the pace with the other title favorites. Antoine Griezmann’s 70th-minute goal against the 10 men of Deportivo La Coruna keeps Atletico in the top three as they were expected to be at the start of the season.

Osasuna remains winless after six matches in the 2016/17 La Liga season, while Villarreal keeps their undefeated start to the season.

All four goals in this match were scored in the first half. Villarreal finished their scoring before Roberto Torres pulled a goal back for Osasuna.

Three minutes additional time was added, and the away team scored two goals was scored by the away team.

Two goals in additional time saw Celta Vigo steal the win late at Espanyol. The goals were less than two minutes apart.

Four second-half goal saw newly promoted Alaves keep Granada down the bottom of the table.

 

Newly promoted Alaves got a 3-1 home win over struggling Granada who are still in search for their first win of the season.

 

Six matches later, Granada remains winless.
