Sevilla continued their undefeated start to the 2016/17 La Liga season. Gabriel Mercado scored to temporarily move Sevilla up to second place on the league table.

A late penalty allowed Celta Vigo to take all three points away from Sporting Gijon. It was nothing less than what they deserved.

 

Real Madrid                         1-1                               Villarreal

Real Madrid slipped at home to Villarreal. Madrid had to settle for a point from a match that could have stretched the lead they had in the La Liga standings.

Sergio Ramos gave a penalty for Villarreal to get their goal at the end of the first half, but he scored in the second half to cancel out the goal.

 

FC Barcelona                             1-1          Atletico Madrid

Barcelona and Atletico Madrid played out a draw. With Real Madrid failing to grab a win against Villarreal, a win in this match would have close the gap to the top of the table for these two title contenders.

Angel Correa first action in the match after replacing Kevin Gameiro was scoring an equalizer for Atletico Madrid to cancel Ivan Rakitic first half goal for Barcelona.

The score might not be worry Barcelona as much as Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets having to leave the match in the second half because of possible injuries.

Granada remains winless after losing at home to Athletic Club.

A 4-1 win over Las Palmas gave Real Sociedad their second win of the season. Las Palmas was down 3-0 by the end of the first half.

Willian Jose gave the home side the lead in the first minute of the match. Things went from bad to worse when Kevin-Prince Boateng was sent off after handling the ball to prevent a goal. The resulting penalty was converted into a goal by Carlos Vela in the 22nd minute.

It wa a match that could have given each side their second victory of the season. Leganes came on top and won their second match of the 2016/17 La Liga season.

 

Leganes had to come from a goal down to win away versus Deportivo La Coruna.

Osasuna remains winless after five matches in the La Liga. A 2-1 defeat at home to Espanyol becomes their latest result.

Sergio Leon scored for Osasuna to equalize Leo Baptistao goal for Espanyol towards the end of the first half, but that lasted for about five minutes before Gerard Moreno restored the lead.

 

Valencia                      2-1                       Alaves

After losing all their matches since the start of the season, Valencia finally gets their first win of the season after five matches.

It took an own goal and questionable penalty for Valencia to find a win against newly promoted Alaves.
