Italian Serie A

It’s not looking too good for the defending champions at the midpoint of the Serie A season. Napoli lose 3-0 at home.

🇮🇹 SERIE A Round – 19

Three games didn’t produce a winner: Roma and Atalanta, Lecce and Cagliari, and the opening match of the round between Bologna and Genoa.

SCOREBOARD:

BOLOGNA (1) – (1) GENOA
INTER MILAN (2) – (1) HELLAS VERONA
FROSINONE (2) – (3) MONZA
LECCE (1) – (1) CAGLIARI
SASSUOLO (1) – (0) FIORENTINA
EMPOLI (0) – (3) AC MILAN
TORINO (3) – (0) NAPOLI
UDINESE (1) – (2) LAZIO
SALERNITANA (1) – (2) JUVENTUS
ROMA (1) – (1) ATALANTA

The top two positions remain separated by two points as both Inter Milan and Juventus secured expected victories in their respective matches. AC Milan also stayed in contention with the top two by securing a win at Empoli.

Despite Fiorentina’s defeat against Sassuolo, they maintained their fourth-place position in the standings. This was because Bologna dropped points in a draw against Genoa in the round’s opening match. Consequently, Bologna retained their fifth-place position, as Atalanta and Roma shared points in a draw. The draw resulted in Roma slipping a position to 8th.

Lazio improved their standing by moving up two positions to 7th after a victory over Udinese. On the other hand, Napoli experienced a setback, dropping two positions to 9th following a 3-0 defeat in Turin.

David Frattesi scored the game-winning goal for Inter Milan in the third minute of the final added time. However, Thomas Henry had another chance to level the score for Hellas Verona through a penalty in the 10th minute of added time but failed to convert. Henry had earlier scored the equalizing goal in the 74th minute to draw Hellas Verona level after Lautaro Martinez had given Inter Milan the lead in the 13th minute.

Lorenzo De Silvestri entered the match in the 87th minute and managed to score the equalizer in the 5th minute of stoppage time, rescuing Bologna from a home defeat against Genoa.

Matias Soule found himself on the losing side with Frosinone despite scoring two goals. Unfortunately, Soule’s own goal turned out to be the winning goal for Monza, securing a ‘3-2’ victory and leaving Frosinone with the defeat.

Fiorentina fell to a 1-0 defeat at Sassuolo, with Andrea Pinamonti’s early goal proving to be the difference. The result marked Sassuolo’s first victory in seven matches (six league games), while it also ending Fiorentina’s winning streak at three games.

AC Milan earned a 3-0 victory over Empoli, with goals from Rubern Lofrus, Cheek, and Olivier Giroud in the first half. Chaka Traore came off the bench in the 84th minute to score the only goal of the second half and extend AC Milan’s lead.

Pasquale Mazzochi entered the game as a Napoli’s halftime substitute and was subsequently sent off just four minutes later, earning a red card for a reckless tackle. Two minutes after the sending off, Nikola Vlasic extended Torino’s lead to 2-0, adding to Antonio Sanabria’s game winning goal at the end of the first half. Alessandro Buongiorno wrapped up the scoring in the 66th minute with a sweet strike of the ball. The ‘3-0’ defeat in Turin against Torino means that Napoli is winless since their elimination from the Coppa Italia by Frosinone (3 games, 2 defeats and a draw).

Lazio secured their third consecutive league win by defeating Udinese ‘2-1,’ with Matias Vecino’s second-half goal deciding the game for Lazio.

Juventus overcame a 10-man Salernitana to win ‘2-1.’: Giulio Maggiore scored in the 39th minute, giving Salernitana a lead, but he received a second yellow card in the 53rd minute, leaving his side defending with a numerical disadvantage. Juventus capitalized on this and secured maximum points.

Atalanta took an early lead in the 8th minute, but a penalty awarded to Roma allowed Paulo Dybala to level the score in the 39th minute. The match ended in a ‘1-1’ draw at Rome, with Atalanta remaining a point ahead of Roma as both teams dropped two points.
