Congratulations to Manchester City for winning the EFL Cup.

With Manchester City’s fixture postponed to accommodate the EFL Cup final, none of the teams in the top four were winners over the round. And the teams that played were beaten by teams at the bottom end of the league table.

Liverpool lost their first league match of the season against a Watford side that came into the match in the relegation zone. Leicester City were also beaten bottom tabled Norwich City, and Chelsea drew with a Bournemouth side that finished the round in the relegation zone.

Wolves made a jump from 8th to 6th after beating Tottenham; dropping Tottenham from 6th to 7th in the league.

Watford and West Ham United get wins from their respective matches to move out of the relegation zone. The two were replaced by Aston Villa (with a game in hand) and Bournemouth.
Norwich remains at the bottom of the table despite the win.

They are not going to finish the season unbeaten but Liverpool are sure to finish the season as champions.
It took 28 matches for Liverpool to be beaten in the 2019/20 Premier League. With 10 matches left to go, there aren’t enough games to accommodate another defeat if we are to base the rest of their season on how they started the season.
Had he been more clinical in front of goal, Ismaila Sarr could have finished the match with a hattrick of goals against Liverpool.
Watford became the first team to win against Liverpool in the 2019/20 Premier League season, ending a steak of 44 matches unbeaten for Liverpool and denying them from setting a new record winning streak of 19 consecutive league matches.

  • Norwich opened the round with a surprising win against Leicester City.
  • Jordan Ayen scored in the 70th minute for Crystal Palace to win away at Brighton.
  • Marcos Alonso on two occasions found the goal to save Chelsea from coming empty handed against Bournemouth.
  • Newcastle needed the maximum points but it ended in a goalless draw against Burnley.

  • Southampton returned to their losing ways after winning against Aston Villa in the last round.
After 7 league matches without a win (5L 2D), West Ham helped themselves in their fight to escape the relegation threat by grabbing a ‘3-1’ win against Southampton.
  • The points were shared at Goodison Park between Everton and Manchester United.
  • Tottenham suffered their third successive defeat after failing to protect a ‘2-1’ lead at the break.
Wolves came from behind on two occasions to level the score before Raul Jimenez grabbed them the winning goal in the 73rd-minute. “
