COPPA ITALIA – Round of 32
Serie A clubs aimed to reach the final 16 of the 2024/25 Coppa Italia, with Cagliari, Genoa, Lecce, Monza, Napoli, and Udinese all playing as the host team against a Serie B side. All but Genoa secured wins to advance to the next round. Genoa were eliminated in a penalty shootout against Sampdoria after a 1-1 draw.
Torino and Empoli will face off, ensuring that at least one Serie A team won’t advance to the Round of 16. Torino ended up on the wrong end of the score in that game.
Pisa and Cesena will also play each other, guaranteeing that at least one Serie B team will not make it to the next round. Pisa ended up on the wrong end of the score in that game as well.

- Sassuolo, Cagliari, and Empoli moved on to the final 16 of the Coppa Italia at the expense of Lecce, Cremonese, and Sampdoria, respectively.
- Raffaele Celia scored the game’s only goal to advance Cesena at Pisa’s expense.
- Lorenzo Luca scored the winning goal from a late penalty in the first half to give Udinese a 2-1 lead going into the break over Salernitana. Jurgen Ekkelenkamp scored a minute after the restart to double Udinese’s lead, ending in a 3-1 win to eliminate Salernitana.
- Sampdoria recovered after going a goal down in the 9th minute with an equalizing goal in the 83rd minute to push the match into a penalty shootout, where they won 5-6 to knock Genoa out of the Coppa Italia. Fabio Borini entered the match in the 76th minute and ended up scoring the equalizing goal for Sampdoria, canceling out Andrea Pinamonti’s goal for Genoa.
- The Serie A teams came out on top in the Coppa Italia, with Monza and Napoli securing home wins to advance to the Round of 16 against Brescia and Palermo, respectively. Monza triumphed 3-1, while Napoli cruised to a dominant 5-0 victory.
THE NEXT ROUND OF THE COPPA ITALIA:
Cagliari, Cesena, Empoli, Monza, Napoli, Sampdoria, Sassuolo, and Udinese have all secured their spots in the Coppa Italia Round of 16, where they will face off in two-legged ties to determine who advances to the quarter-finals.
Cagliari face a daunting task as they prepare to take on Juventus. Cesena will need to overcome Atalanta, while Empoli are set for a Tuscan derby against Fiorentina. Monza will square off against Bologna in a bid to reach the last eight.
Napoli are set for a clash with Lazio, and Sampdoria will look to upset Roma. Sassuolo must find a way past AC Milan, and Udinese will battle Inter Milan for a place in the quarter-finals.
