French Ligue 1 – Round Fifteen

November 29, 2016

Lorient                                         2-1                        Rennes

Michael Ciano 28’                                                   Giovanni Sio 32’

Abdul Majeed Waris 46’

A home victory over Rennes gave Lorient their third victory in the 2016/17 Ligue 1 season.  If Lorient is to climb up from the bottom of the league standings, this would be one of the victories they would look back to.

Rennes is having a decent season and a defeat like this can not be a habit if they intend on finishing in a European qualification spot at the end of the season.

Lille                                                 4-2                         Caen

Eder 14’                                                                         Julien Feret 31’

Naim Sliti 24’                                                                 Sylvio Ronny Rodelin 84’

Nicolas De Preville 64’

Marcos Lopes 65’

Both teams are in a battle to stay out of the relegation zone.  The home team came out with a quite comfortable win.

The victory allowed Lille the team to get level on points with Caen.

Dijon                                                1-1                           Monaco

Frederic Sammaritano 87’                                           Guido Marcelo Carrillo 17’

It was looking like Guido Carrillo’s early goal for Monaco was going to give the team an away victory, but newly-promoted Dijon scored a late goal denied Monaco important points to keep tabs with the race at the top of the league standings.

November 30, 2016

Nancy                                         4-0                             Metz

Benoit Pedretti 38’

Joffrey Cuffaut 79’

Issiar Dia 80’

Youssef Ait Bennasser 90’+3’

Three late second half goals gave Nancy a home victory that  moved them to two points away from Metz in the league standings.

Both newly promoted sides are having a decent season in the 2016/17 Ligue 1.

Saint-Etienne                                  0-0                        Marseille

A goalless draw between Saint-Etienne and Marseille. It made sense that Marseille was the hungrier of the two in this fixture.

Marseille was coming from a defeat in their last league match,  and a victory here would pull them a point behind a Saint-Etienne team that is coming off a victory in their last league match.

SC Bastia                                         1-1                        Bordeaux

Thievy Bifouma 49’                                                      Gaetan Laborde 78’

Bordeaux saved themselves from a defeat at Bastia when Gaetan Laborde scored to cancel out Thievy Bifouma’s goal for SC Bastia.

Toulouse                                        1-0                       Montpellier

Issiaga Sylla 19’

After two league defeats, Issiaga Sylla scored the only goal of the match to give Toulouse a home victory over a Montpellier team that has now gone three league matches without a victory.

Nantes                                             0-6                       Lyon

                                                                                     Corentin Tolisso 16’

                                                                                     Alexandre Lacazette 39’(pen)

                                                                                     Maxime Gonalons 42’

                                                                                     Mathieu Valbuena 60’

                                                                                     Mouctar Diakhaby 75’

                                                                                     Nabil Fekir 81’

Six goals, six goalscorers.

Lyon bounced back from their home defeat against Paris Saint-Germain by scoring three goals in each half against Nantes to get their victory.

It was a comprehensive victory for Lyon as they grabbed maximum points away from  Nantes.

Guingamp                                       0-1                        OGC Nice

                                                                                       Younes Belhanda 5’

So long as OGC Nice win the remainder of their matches in Ligue 1, the title would be theirs.

A victory over Guingamp keeps Nice on top of the league table by a point.

Paris Saint-Germain                       2-0                      Angers

Thiago Silva 34’

Edinson Cavani 66’(pen)

Paris Saint-Germain got another win to keep pace with OGC Nice.

Edinson Cavani confirmed the victory when he converted a second-half penalty to double the lead for PSG.

After his goal, Cavani paid tribute to the victims of the plane crash that took the lives of  the majority of Chapecoense players in Colombia.
