FOOTBALL AT THE 2020 SUMMER OLYMPICS

FOOTBALL at the 2020 (2021) Summer Olympics

The football kicks off on July 7th and ends on August 7th.
The women’s tournament starts on July 21, 2021, and the men’s starts the following day. The women’s final is scheduled for August 61h, 2021, and the men’s final is scheduled for the next day.

 

THE MEN’S TOURNAMENT

Group A: Japan, South Africa, Mexico, France
Group B: New Zealand, South Korea, Honduras, Romania
Group C: Egypt, Spain, Argentina, Australia
Group D: Brazil, Germany, Ivory Coast, Saudi Arabia

The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals. The Winners of the group take on a Runner-up from an adjacent group.

Group C vs Group D

Highlighted fixtures will be the ties in Group C between Spain and Argentina and Group D between Brazil and Germany.
These are nations representing strong football confederations with high expectations. For Brazil and Germany, their fixture is a replay of the 2016 Olympic final.

THE WOMEN’S TOURNAMENT

Group G: Sweden, United States, Australia, New Zealand

Australia and New Zealand should be an interesting rivalry.
And like with all international women’s football competitions, the United States will be tipped as the very strong favorite.
The top three teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals.

Germany won Gold in the previous tournament but is not here to defend the title.
Sweden were silver medalists in the last edition. Can they make it Gold?
