FBMD – Liverpool and Chelsea

On April 8, 2009, Chelsea went to away to Anfield and defeated Liverpool by 3 goals to 1 in the first leg of the 2008/09 UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.

In the previous edition of the competition, Chelsea knocked out Liverpool at the semi-final stage and went on to lose the final to Manchester United, so with away goals in Chelsea’s favor, the round looked done.

April 14, 2009, was the return leg. Chelsea had the lead on aggregates, the ‘away-goals’ advantage, and the home field advantage.  Liverpool made sure that Chelsea used all of their advantages to get over the line and into the semi-finals.
