🇪🇸 LA LIGA

Sept 24. ATLÉTICO MADRID vs. REAL MADRID (El Derbi Madrileño)
While Atletico Madrid’s unbeaten run came to an end with a 3-0 loss to Valencia in the last round, Real Madrid has maintained a perfect record in the league despite having to come from behind to win.
They both played in a midweek Champions League match, and while Atletico Madrid blew a lead in the dying minutes of the game (against Lazio) to take only a point, Real Madrid scored in the dying minutes of the game (against Union Berlin) to take all three points.
The derby is up next for the Madrid clubs. Real Madrid can either keep their perfect winning record or Altetico Madrid can take the bragging rights by ending it.

Sept 23. BARCELONA vs. CELTA VIGO
Barcelona dominated Real Betis 5-0, with Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo shining, and they went on to defeat Antwerp 5-0 in the Champions League. Celta Vigo will be the next opponent for Barcelona’s title defense. Celta Vigo would not have a win if it were not for bottom-placed Almeria. Unless the most unlikely of events occurs, it appears that Barcelona will win 5-0 again.

Sept 23. OSASUNA vs. SEVILLA
Sevilla won their first league game of the season (against Las Palmas) after losing their previous four. Sevilla followed their league win with the dropping of two points at home against Lens in their Champions League opening fixture.
The outcome against Osasuna will reveal more about Sevilla’s current form.

 

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 PREMIER LEAGUE

Sept 24. LIVERPOOL vs. WEST HAM UNITED
Liverpool and West Ham United are both coming to this fixture after winning ‘3-1’ in their respective games in the Europa League on Thursday.
Liverpool have won all of their league games since dropping points in a draw (against Chelsea) in their first league game, and will look to continue doing so when West Ham United visit. West Ham is coming off a home loss to Manchester City.

Sept 24. CHELSEA vs. ASTON VILLA
Aston Villa stunned Crystal Palace with three late goals to win the game. They will use that as motivation when they travel to Stamford Bridge to face a Chelsea team desperate for a win. Chelsea has only one win this season, and it came against newly promoted Luton Town.

Sept 24. ARSENAL vs. TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR (North London derby)
Titles are rarely at stake, but there are plenty of points and bragging rights at stake when these two clubs meet. Arsenal and Tottenham have identical records and points after five rounds of the Premier League season.
Richarlison’s heroics propel Tottenham to a dramatic comeback victory over Sheffield United in the previous round. Tottenham will now go into a North London derby against an Arsenal side that is also riding high after a resounding ‘4-0’ win over PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.

Sept 23. MANCHESTER CITY vs. NOTTINGHAM FOREST
Manchester City overcame West Ham’s challenge to keep their unbeaten start and perfect league record. With Manchester City having the backing of home supporters, we doubt that Nottingham Forest will be the team to stop Manchester City from staying perfect.

Sept 23.: BURNLEY vs. MANCHESTER UNITED 
Sept 24.: SHEFFFIELD UNITED vs. NEWCASTLE UNITED  
Despite finishing in the league’s top four last season, Manchester United and Newcastle United are in the bottom half of the table after five rounds. They have equal points from identical league records, their midweek Champions League performances were underwhelming, and they will both be away from home against newly promoted sides that are both without a league win and on a single point, Burnley and Sheffield United, respectively.

Sept 24. BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION vs. BOURNEMOUTH
Brighton have won four of their first five league games, including a historic ‘3-1’ victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford. They were defeated in the Conference League (by AEK Athens), but Brighton will look to make amends by winning the league at home against Bournemouth.

 

 

🇮🇹 SERIE A

Inter Milan and Juventus reach double-digit points. Who will join them this weekend?

Sept 23. SASSUOLO vs. JUVENTUS
Dusan Vlahovic’s double propelled Juventus past Lazio.
For the next three points, Juventus will travel to Sassuolo.
Sassuolo were ‘4-2’ losers against Frosinone in the last round.

Sept 23. AC MILAN vs. HELLAS VERONA
Sept 24. EMPOLI vs. INTER MILAN
Inter Milan crushed AC Milan 5-1 in thrilling derby.
After winning the Milan derby, Inter Milan will travel to Empoli, while AC Milan will host Hellas Verona. Both Milan clubs earned one point (each) from their Champions League midweek match.

Sept 24. BOLOGNA vs. NAPOLI
It has been a slow start to Napoli’s title defense season. They had to stage a comeback to salvage a draw against Genoa in the previous round, but they might have gained confidence from their midweek Champions League victory (over Braga). Napoli will be in Bologna looking for a win to help them get back to where they should be as defending champions.

Sept 24. TORINO vs. ROMA
Torino is aiming for a third straight league win.
Roma’s resounding 7-0 win over Empoli signaled a turnaround from their shaky start to the league season. The outcome of the match against Torino in Turin will reveal more about Roma.

 

🇩🇪 BUNDESLIGA

Bundesliga title race tightens as top teams face growing competition. Bayer Leverkusen holds firm at the top, but the pursuers are closing in. What will this round bring?

Sept 24. BAYER LEVERKUSEN vs. HEIDENHEIM
Following a hard-fought draw in Munich against Bayern Munich to remain top of the table, unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen will be at home seeking maximum points against newly-promoted Heidenheim.
Heidenheim stunned Werder Bremen to win 4-2 in the last round.

Sept 23. BAYERN MUNICH vs. BOCHUM
Bayern Munich will also play Bochum at home.
Both Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich are expected to win three points this weekend, so if one falters, the other is likely to create a three-point gap.

Sept 23. BORUSSIA DORTMUND vs. WOLFSBURG
Despite an early scare, Dortmund defeated Freiburg 4-2 in the last round. Dortmund had a difficult Champions League match against Paris St. Germain, which they lost. They will be hoping to bounce back against Wolfsburg.

Sept 22. STUTTGART vs. DARMSTADT
Serhou Guirassy’s hat-trick lifted Stuttgart to 3-1 win over Mainz in the last round. This weekend, Stuttgart will face Darmstadt. Darmstadt and Monchengladbach shared points in a high-scoring draw, keeping both teams winless.

Sept 23. BORUSSIA MÖNCHENGLADBACH vs. RB LEIPZIG
RB Leipzig’s first-half surge sealed victory against Augsburg. RB Leipzig is also coming off a successful midweek run in the Champions League and will be looking to continue their good form when they travel to face Monchengladbach.

 

🇫🇷 LIGUE 1

Will Monaco hold on to the top spot?

Sept 24. PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN vs. MARSEILLE (Le Classique)
The most anticipated football matches in France.
Paris St. Germain is coming off a successful midweek run in the Champions League (against Dortmud), and Marseille is coming off a somewhat successful result in their Europa League draw in Amsterdam against Ajax. While Paris St. Germain suffered their first league defeat in the previous round, Marseille remains unbeaten. Marsielle is looking to increase the point-gap between the two, while Paris St. Germain is looking to overtake.

Sept 23. BREST vs. LYON
Six rounds into the Ligue 1 season, Brest is seeking their fourth win, while Lyon will be looking for their first. Brest surged into second place in the league standings at the end of the fifth round, while Lyon’s winning drought continued as Le Havre held them to a stalemate.

Sept 22. MONACO vs. NICE
Late drama denied Monaco victory at Lorient, so they will be hosting Nice for the points to remain at the top of the league table. Two points separate the two sides after five rounds, with both of them boasting about being unbeaten in the league.

Sept 24. LENS vs. TOULOUSE
Lens is at the bottom of the French Ligue 1 standings after picking up just a point, and 7 goal deficit. This is a club that qualified for the UEFA Champions League by finishing second to Paris St. Germain last season. According to some fans, Lens was the best performing club in Ligue 1 last season. The start of this season says the exact opposite.
A home game against Toulouse is the sixth opportunity for Lens to pick up a win
Toulouse is not doing particularly well either, but they have done their best to avoid defeats for the most part.

 

🇳🇱 EREDIVISIE

The top of the Dutch Eredivisie standings is a three-way tie.
PSV Eindhoven, AZ Alkmaar, and FC Twente all have 12 points and a perfect winning record. PSV Einhoven and AZ Alkmaar will face newly promoted sides Almere City and PEC Zwolle. FC Twente will face the struggling RKC Waalwijk.

Sept 24. AJAX vs. FEYENOORD (Der Klassieker)
Amsterdam and Rotterdam.
One of the highlights of the Dutch football calendar.
They are the most recent winners of the Dutch Eredivisie. Feyenoord, the reigning champions, is unbeaten in the league and one point behind the three-way tie at the top (PSV Eindhoven, AZ Alkmaar, and Twente), while Ajax, with a game in hand, has only managed one league win.
Ajax has not won in three league games and could not hold on to a lead in the midweek Europa League game against Marseille, dropping two points short in a ‘3-3’ draw. It’s not looking good for Ajax when Feyenoord is next on the schedule.
Feyenoord were 3-2 winners on their last visit to Amsterdam.

 

THE BATTLE AHEAD FOR SOME RECENTLY-PROMOTED TEAMS:

🇵🇹 Sept 23. Moreirense vs. Farense
This weekend, two newly promoted clubs in the Portuguese Primeira Liga will compete for league points to help them stay in the top flight. Farense will be hosted by Moreirense. They both lost three of their five matches, but Farense has two wins to Moreinrense’s one.

🇪🇸 Sept 24. Las Palmas vs. Granada
Two newly promoted clubs square off. Both have had a difficult start to the La Liga season after five rounds. Las Palmas is winless, while Granada has one win but has lost all of their remaining matches. This is a chance for either team to score some points.

🇮🇹 Sept 24. Atalanta vs. Cagliari
Cagliari is winless in four games after being promoted. They will try their luck at home against an Atalanta side that has just lost to Fiorentina and has also recently lost to newly promoted Frosinone. Cagliari will be looking for their first win, while Atalanta will be looking to rebound from a defeat.

🇪🇸 Sept 22. Salernitana vs. Frosinone
After four rounds, newly promoted Frosinone is flying high in the Serie A standings. They are sixth in the table and will travel to face a Salernitana side without a win and in last place.

🇳🇱 Sept 23. Almere City vs. PSV Eindhoven
Newly-promoted Almere City earned a goalless draw in the previous round to end their league losing streak, but things do not get any easier as they face PSV Einhoven in their next game. PSV Eindhoven may have been thrashed ‘4-0’ by Arsenal in their midweek Champions League game, but they have won all their games in the Eredivisie this season.
