Messi, Suarez, Neymar (MSN) first season together was a major success. Winning the La Liga and Copa del Rey was iced with the winning of the 2015 UEFA Champions league. Their opponent, Juventus, was also chasing a similar treble. Juventus had won the Serie A, and the Copa Italia. Both teams had new managers, and both managers were enjoying similar success in their domestic league.
Luis Enrique’s first season as Barcelona’s head coach was a success. Juventus was not expected to get that far in the competition, especially when they were regarded as the easiest passage to the final at the semi final stage. Getting to the final was a successful farewell to one of Italy’s greatest players, Andrea Pirlo.
On the other side was Xavi Hernandez. It was Xavi’s last match, and with FC Barcelona being regarded as one of the favorites from the start of the competition, it was a fitting farewell for him.
