English Premier League

Can Guardiola make Man City consecutive Premier League title winners?

Under the management of Pep Guardiola, there isn’t an expectation that Manchester City will take their foot off the pedal in the 2018/19 Premier League title race.

A ‘2-0’ Community Shield victory against Chelsea to indicate their position in the league’s power ranking remains the same after the summer break.

Can Manchester City do better than the 2017/18 season?
Majority of last season was Manchester City controlling the tempo of all their matches and going into every game with the intentions to win by as many goals as possible.

Deservingly, they won the league title and broke the record for the most point accumulated in English football history (100) and a record number of victories (32). On their way to Premier League title number 3, Manchester City set a new record for consecutive victories to 18 matches.

The summer break should have given the 19 other Premier League teams the time to come up with a solution to break Manchester City’s dominance in the league. Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool. Chelsea, and Arsenal are 5 of the 19 teams that are expected to give Manchester City a challenge for the 2018/19 Premier League title.

Arsenal will be the first in the list of ‘title favorites’ to get the opportunity to put a stop to Manchester City dominance. Pre-season results and changes in management has made Arsenal hopeful for the coming season. Unai Emery’s task will be to get Arsenal back to Champions League football by any means necessary. (top four finish in the league or winning the 2018/19 UEFA Europa League)

Manchester United was the closest team on the league table to Manchester City. A few additions and a slight change in tactics could put Manchester United in a position to win the season. They picked up and dropped points against the odds.

Liverpool
After a Champions League final and a 3rd place finish in the league, Liverpool is expected to be a better competitor with their new acquisitions. Naby Keita(RB Leipzig) Fabinho(AS Monaco) Xherdan Shaqiri (Stoke City) Allison Becker (AS Roma). But Liverpool hasn’t won the league in so long that it is difficult to see it happening for the team. Also, recent defeats at cup finals might be a sign of a team that finds it difficult to compose themselves when the pressure heightens

Chelsea with a new manager Maurizio Sarri could be a hit or a miss. Sarri’s time with Napoli displayed great attacking football but no titles. High pressing attacking football has yet to deliver a silverware for Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool in the Premier League so Maurizio Sarri might need to consider which parts of his Napoli gameplan he will be bringing to Stamford Bridge.

Their business during the transfer window does help their argument as a league title contender but Tottenham Hotspurs recent league performances put them in the ring with the rest of Premier League best.
