Bayern within reach after stumbling in the Bundesliga.

After a 3-match winless run that stretched from September 25 – October 6, 2018, Bayern Munich is back within reach to defend the league title after teams around them slipped from their position in the league.

Bayern Munich is the only defending champions in Europe’s top leagues that isn’t currently on top their domestic league table.

It took just two rounds of fixtures for Bayern Munich to get back in contention for top spot in the Bundesliga after results from the 5th round to the 7th round kicked them out of the ‘top four’ places in the league to 6th.

Bayern Munich dropped Bundesliga points in two home matches during this period; allowing Augsburg to take a point from the Allianz Arena when they came from behind to get a late goal against the run of play and a humiliating ‘3-0’ defeat against Borussia Monchengladbach. Between the two poor league results was defeat ‘2-0’ away to Hertha Berlin.
Points were also dropped in the Champions League match against Ajax within this period.

  • Bayern Munich 1-1 Augsburg
    Hertha Berlin 2-0 Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich 1-1 Ajax (UEFA Champions League)
    Bayern Munich 0-3 Borussia Monchengladbach.

Something is usually very wrong if you have to look down the Bundesliga standings to find Bayern Munich.
After 7 matches into the season. Bayern Munich was 6th in the Bundesliga standings below Hertha Berlin, Borussia Monchengladbach, RB Leipzig.
Borussia Dortmund remains unbeaten in the league. History will advise Dortmund to keep up the good start if they want to put a stop to Bayern Munich’s reign in Germany.

All the teams in the ‘top 6’ of the league standings after Round 7 failed to keep a 100% record between the 7th and the 9th round. With Bayern Munich greatly rewarded for being the exception.
