THE PERFORMANNCE INDEX RATING:

Barcelona ranks the best among the European clubs on our Index Rating. Bayern Munich is next, and PSG shows up in third as the best-ranked of the defending champions. Real Madrid is the next best-ranked defending champion, coming in at 6th; they are the other La Liga club in the top 10 along with Barcelona.

Manchester City comes in behind Real Madrid in 7th as the other English Premier League side in the top 10, besides Liverpool, who comes in 5th. Sporting CP closed out the top 10 in 10th, making three defending champions in the top 10. Monaco is in 8th place as the other Ligue 1 team in the top 10 apart from Paris Saint-Germain.

Lazio is the highest-ranked of the Italian Serie A clubs, coming in 9th. Inter Milan is the worst-ranked defending champion, coming in 16th, with PSV Eindhoven in 15th and Bayer Leverkusen in 11th. Como (69th), Santa Clara (73rd), and Espanyol (77th) are the best-ranked of the recently promoted clubs. Southampton (129th) is the worst-ranked of the recently promoted clubs, with Nacional at 128th. At the tail end of the ranking, in 132nd position, is Almere City.

The English Premier League has four teams without a win: Crystal Palace, Ipswich Town, Southampton, and Wolverhampton Wanderers. There are two in the German Bundesliga: Holstein Kiel and Bochum, and another two in the Dutch Eredivisie: Almere City and RKC Waalwijk. There is one in the Spanish La Liga (Las Palmas), one in the Italian Serie A (Monza), and one in the French Ligue 1 (Angers).

Juventus is the only unbeaten team in the Italian Serie A, while Sporting CP is the only unbeaten club in the Portuguese Primeira Liga. The Dutch Eredivisie has three unbeaten teams: Feyenoord, PSV Eindhoven, and Utrecht; the French Ligue 1 also has three unbeaten teams: Lens, Monaco, and Paris Saint-Germain. The English Premier League has two unbeaten teams: Arsenal and Manchester City. There are also two unbeaten teams in the German Bundesliga: Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig, as well as two in the Spanish La Liga: Atlético Madrid and Real Madrid.

Averaging 0.25 goals per game and having scored just 2 goals in the Dutch Eredivisie makes Almere City the worst offensive side in Europe’s top seven leagues.

Defensively in their domestic league, Juventus is conceding goals at a rate of 0.14, having conceded only 1 goal so far in the Italian Serie A. No team in Europe’s top seven leagues has conceded fewer goals.

The most league points accumulated by a club in the top seven leagues is 24. Barcelona (Spanish La Liga), PSV Eindhoven (Dutch Eredivisie), and Sporting CP (Portuguese Primeira Liga) are the three clubs to achieve this by picking up 8 wins each. It is the latter two that hold the best average for points per game. PSV Eindhoven (Dutch Eredivisie) and Sporting CP (Portuguese Primeira Liga) have not dropped any points in their respective leagues, both averaging 3.38 goals per game, which is also the highest average among clubs in Europe’s top seven leagues.

RKC Waalwijk has not gained any points in the Dutch Eredivisie, making them the only team in that category among teams in Europe’s top seven leagues. RKC Waalwijk has lost all their games in the Dutch Eredivisie since the start of the season (8), conceding 22 goals, which is also the most goals conceded by a team in the top seven leagues. They have dropped the most points (24), matched only by Las Palmas in the Spanish La Liga. Despite having conceded the most goals, their average of 2.75 goals conceded per game is the fourth worst among clubs in the top leagues. The three teams with a higher goal concession rate than RKC Waalwijk are Montpellier (French Ligue 1), Wolverhampton Wanderers (English Premier League) at 3 goals, and Holstein Kiel (German Bundesliga) at 3.17 goals.
Barcelona’s 28 goals scored in the Spanish La Liga are the most by any club in Europe’s top seven leagues.
