About a quarter (1/4) into the 2015 La Liga season

About a quarter (1/4) of the 2015 La Liga season

Eleven games since the start of the La Liga, and no surprises at the top of the table. The teams that are currently regarded as the top 3 teams in the league have taken their positions. The defending champions, FC Barcelona are top of the table with 27 pts.

They are followed by Real Madrid (24) and Atletico Madrid (23). The top 4 teams are separated by 6 points, double the amounts of points that separates the top 2.

Half way through their first 11 matches, FC Barcelona lost their star man to a knee injury. Lionel Messi has been sidelined for 7- 8 weeks. This was an advantage for all 19 teams in the league. It is no surprise that Real Madrid was seen as the team to benefit the most from Messi’s injury.

Can FC Barcelona do it without Messi?

With Messi out for 7-8 weeks, FC Barcelona needed a ‘Messi’. Last season was the year of the ‘MSN’ Messi- Suarez- Neymar. The attacking trio enjoyed their treble winning season by terrorizing defenses across Europe. The question was could this trio survive as a duo? After 5-6 matches since Messi’s injury, it is safe to say that they can do the job.

All 20 teams have managed a win, Barcelona as expected, has managed to get the most wins. Real Madrid has suffered the fewest losses in the season. They were undefeated in their opening 10 matches in their La Liga season (the longest undefeated streak in the season)

Real Madrid and FC Barcelona are the most potent in front of the goal. Real Madrid with 26 goals scored, a goal more than that of FC Barcelona. 4th place Celta Vigo is right up there with 22 goals scored.

Granada and Levante (the two teams at the bottom of the league table), and Espanyol are the only teams to concede over 20 goals so far into the season. However, Getafe, 15th is the team with the most losses. A loss more than each of the bottom 5 teams.
