2018/19 Premier League – Round 4 – Watford eliminates Tottenham from the list of ‘unbeaten’ teams

Four games into the season and Liverpool, Chelsea, and Watford are the sides left with a 100% winning record in the league, West Ham United is left at the bottom of the league standings and remain the only team to has suffered defeat in all their matches, and Aleksandar Mitrovic (Fulham) and Sadio Mane (Liverpool) lead the list of scorers with 4 goals each.

Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino scored a goal each in the first-half for Liverpool to extend their winning start to 4 games after a ‘2-1’ away victory against Leicester City. Alisson Becker goalkeeping theatrics allowed Leicester City to cut the lead in half, but Liverpool was able to hold on to pick up another 3 points.

Pedro and Hazard delivered the goals in the final third of the match for Chelsea to win at home against AFC Bournemouth.

After missing a chance to take a lead through a penalty kick in the first-half, Brighton had to come from 2-goals down to avoid a defeat at home to Fulham.

Crystal Palace suffered a ‘2-0’ defeat at home to Southampton. It could have been a 3-goal victory for the Saints had Charlie Austin converted a 65th-minute penalty kick into a goal.

A consecutive league draws from both Everton and Huddersfield Town after a ‘1-1’ draw.

Not the improvement West Ham fans were expecting.
Adama Traore scored a goal deep into injury time for Wolverhampton Wanderers to get first Premier League victory since promotion by beating West Ham United at the Olympic Stadium.

Manchester City gets back on track after Kyle Walker buried a low shot from outside the box to hand Manchester City a victory over Newcastle United.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang finally scores a goal as his Arsenal side fought hard to secure a consecutive victory. Cardiff City found their way back into the match after going down a goal in each half against Arsenal, but Alexandre Lacazette scored the winning goal in the 81st minute to give Arsenal the maximum points away from home.

Romelu Lukaku made amends for his performance against Tottenham by scoring all of Manchester United’s goal in a ‘2-0’ away victory against Burnley. Pre-season expectations wouldn’t allow Manchester United to afford to 3 consecutive league matches without winning/or with defeats. Paul Pogba missed a penalty in the 69th-minute that could have made allowed United to cancel out the goal margin in their defeat to Tottenham, and second-half substitute Marcus Rashford was sent off after 10 minutes after replacing Alexis Sanchez.

Tottenham Hotspur record of a 100% winning start of the season was ended by a Watford side that was surprisingly protecting their own 100% winning start to the season.

Maybe it was complacency on Tottenham’s part after dominating the first half of the match, but Watford did the improbable by coming from a goal down to get a ‘2-1’ victory over Tottenham Hotspur; a pre-season league title contender.
Tottenham went from beating Manchester United at Old Trafford to losing at Vicarage Road to Watford, ending their perfect start to their season.
