2018/19 Ligue 1 began with a good first round for the ‘top four’ teams and the newly-promoted teams.

The top four teams at the end of the 2017/18 season were all on the right side of the scoreline at the end of the first round of the 2018/19 Ligue 1 season.

Dimitri Payet scored a brace as his Marseille side secured a ‘4-0’ home victory against Toulouse in the opening match of the 2018/19 season of the French Ligue 1. 

After a goalless half, Monaco also got a winning start to the league when Rony Lopes opened the scoring for them to take a win away at Nantes.

The new boys had a successful first round. Both promoted teams started the 2018/19 season with a win. – Nimes from a 7 goal thrilling match against Angers, and Reims through an early goal against Nice.

Newly promoted Nimes started their season with a thrilling away victory over Angers.
Nimes lost an early goal lead and found themselves two goals down with 35 minutes of regulation time left to play. Less than 3 minutes after cutting their goal deficit in half, Nimes was then reduced to 10-men when Florian Miguel received a second yellow card. The numerically disadvantaged Nimes sided found two goals in the final 10 minutes of regulation time to take the maximum points.

An early goal in the 2nd-minute allowed newly-promoted Reims to start the Ligue 1 experience with the maximum points against Nice.

Dijon bounced back from conceding an early goal to beat Montpellier away from home, Rennes is beaten at Lille after failing to take a goal lead into the halftime break, Lois Diony’s goal restored the lead for Saint-Etienne to pick up 3 points at home over Guingamp, and Memphis Depay scored an amazing ‘insurance’ goal for Lyon to win at home against Amiens.

An early red card reduced Bordeaux to 10 men and ended up costing them their opening match of the season. Strasbourg scored two in the second half to take all 3 points from Bordeaux.

And in the final match of the round, PSG started their title defense with a ‘3-0’ victory at home over Caen. Neymar opened the scoring for Paris St.Germain and Timothy Weah made the victory comprehensive with his first Ligue 1 goal when he scored in the 89th-minute.
