Italian Serie A

2018/19 Italian Serie A – Round 2 – Napoli doing their part to get in another Scudetto race with Juventus.

Defending champions Juventus, Napoli, and SPAL 2013 are the three teams in the 2018/19 season with maximum points available. Fiorentina and Genoa have the maximum points from the matches they’ve played.

Miralem Pjanic and Mario Mandzukic provided the goals as Juventus picks up another 3 points. A goal in each half sees Juventus do a professional job against Lazio to win their home opener against Lazio.
It was always going to be a tough start to the season for Lazio. They had to open their season with their first two games against last season’s 2nd place and the defending champions.

Napoli had to come from a losing position to win another match. After having to come from a goal down in their season opener against Lazio to win by 2 goals to 1, Napoli increased the difficulty settings by going down 2 goals and before finding goals to end with a ‘3-2’ win against AC Milan. Once again, this was after Juventus had secured the maximum points from the opening match of the round.

SPAL 2013 makes it a perfect start to their season after beating promoted Parma. Kevin-Prince Boateng converted from the penalty spot in deep into a +7 minute additional time to rescue a point away for a 10-man Sassuolo side against Cagliari.

Fiorentina flexed their scoring muscles against Chievo Verona in a 7-goal match that handed Fiorentina their first win in two matches, while doubling Chievo Verona’s defeats. The score margin locked Chievo at the bottom of the league standings.

In an evenly contested fixture, newly-promoted Frosinone held on to a point at home against Bologna. Empoli cut the deficit in half with a late goal but suffered defeat to Genoa. Udinese held on to an early goal to win at home against Sampdoria.

Inter Milan was supposed to be a better contender this season. Inter Milan blew a 2-goal lead at home to settle for a point at home to Torino. Both Inter Milan and Torino started their season on the wrong end of a ‘1-0’ score and in search of their first league victory.

It was a thrilling 6-goal encounter between Roma and Atalanta, with both teams missing out on the opportunity to secure another league victory. A complacent Roma side almost suffered defeat in the home opener after going from an early lead to finding themselves two goals behind before the halftime break. Roma dropped points at home to Atlanta despite having an almost perfect start to the match when new signing Javier Pastore opened the scoring with a cheeky backheel shot.
