2018/19 German Bundesliga Round 2 – early setbacks for Schalke, Dortmund, and Leverkusen

Hoffenheim and Bayern Munich were the only winning sides from last season’s Champions League qualifiers. Schalke and Dortmund dropped points.

Early season slip for Borussia Dortmund as they dropped a couple of points away against Hannover 96 in a goalless draw to kick-off the second round of the Bundesliga.

Hoffenheim bounced back from the opening day defeat to Bayern Munich with a ‘3-1’ victory against Freiburg. The right way for Hoffenheim to open their season at home. Wolfsburg doubled their victories by coming from a goal down to seal a ‘3-1’ away victory against Bayer Leverkusen.

A goal injury time from a freekick allowed Werder Bremen to leave Frankfurt with all the points after a ‘2-1’ victory against a 10-man Eintracht Frankfurt side that had to play from the 32nd minute of the match with a numerical disadvantage when Jetro Willems was sent off on a red card.

Alassane Plea scored a 68th-minute equalizing goal to rescue a point for Borussia Monchengladbach against Augsburg.

Newly-promoted Nurnberg picked up their first point of the season at home after a ‘1-1’ draw at home against Mainz 05.

Bayern Munich makes another step towards title defense after scoring 3 to pick up 3 points at Stuttgart. New signing Leon Goretzka opened the scoring for Bayern Munich before the regulars (Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller) added a goal each.

It hasn’t been the ideal start for RB Leipzig as they had to share the points and goals with newly-promoted Fortuna Dusseldorf.

Schalke 04 early season struggles were extended after a ‘2-0’ defeat at home to Hertha Berlin.
Schalke suffers consecutive defeat, while Hertha Berlin picked up three points to join Bayern and Wolfsburg as the three teams in the league that remain with a perfect start after 2 rounds.
Hertha Berlin got on the score sheet just moment after Daniel Caligiuri failed to score a penalty kick that would have given Schalke the lead.
