Spanish La Liga

2017/18 Spanish La Liga – Round 33 – Barcelona is helped closer to the league title after ‘contenders’ fail to secure maximum points.

Great results for FC Barcelona as all the title contenders failed to find success in the 33rd Round of the season. Barcelona finished the round 12-points clear at the top of the league table. With just 15-points left in the league for each club, Barcelona will clinch the title with a victory at Deportivo La Coruna.

The midweek matches ended with all the ‘top 4’ teams dropping points, with Barcelona and Real Madrid being able to avoid defeat while Atletico Madrid and Valencia suffered defeat in their respective matches.

Valencia ended up on the wrong end of a ‘2-1’ scoreline at home against Getafe.

Atletico Madrid conceded two goals in the final 10 minutes of regulation time to lose ‘3-0’ to Real Sociedad. It was Sociedad’s third victory in a row. Real Sociedad’s second-half substitute Juami scored a brace in the 20 minutes he played.

A 10-man Barcelona team kept their undefeated run going with an away draw against Celta Vigo. Barcelona had to bring the best out of them to extend their undefeated run in the league to 40 consecutive matches and 5 matches away from going the 2017/18 La Liga season undefeated.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a late goal to salvage a point for Real Madrid against Athletic Club and to allowed Madrid to take full advantage to Valencia’s defeat to Getafe and open a 3 point gap between the two sides.

The bottom end of the league table is taking shape.
The bottom two teams in the league standings suffered defeat in their respective matches after conceding a goal in the ‘stoppage time’ goals. Real Betis defeated Las Palmas, while Levante is escaping the threat of relegation after grabbing a late goal in additional time to beat and relegate bottom-table Malaga.
