A good round for FC Barcelona!
Barcelona goes to the winter break 9 points clear on top of the league and an El Clasico victory. Lionel Messi inspired Barcelona to a 3-0 away victory over Real Madrid. Messi scored contributed a goal to his team’s victory and took his tally to 15 goals as the current top scorer.
Barcelona was the only team in the ‘top 5’ that went to the winter break with a win. The other four teams suffered shocking defeats. While Barcelona defeated fourth-place Real Madrid, second-place Atletico Madrid suffered their first league defeat at Espanyol but remained in their position on the table because third-place Valencia was defeated at home by Villarreal.
