English Premier League

2017/18 English Premier League – Round 23 – Manchester City finally falls.

Every team in the Premier League has their personal reason for saying ‘thank you’ to Liverpool after ending Manchester City’s undefeated run. Liverpool showed demonstrated that with high press attacking, you can bring the game to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City and increase your odds of coming out with points for your side.
Manchester City suffered their first league defeat of the season after 22 matches.

Liverpool became the first team to deny Manchester City at least a point in the 2017/18 English Premier League season. We expected the two attacking sides to provide goals in this fixture, and they did just that. The 4-3 score at the end of the match was an indication of the attacking threat both teams had, and the defensive flaws that Liverpool had to give up a 3 goal lead to finish the game by barely being on the right end of a 7-goal thriller.

Chelsea and Leicester City opened the round with a goalless draw. Being the defending champions, traditionally the better football team and having the home support made Chelsea the favorites ahead of the match, but Leicesters City had more than enough chances to have come out on top at the end of the fixture.
A goal in the beginning stages of each half saw West Bromwich Albion end a 20-match winless streak in the league.  Harry Kane moved to 20 goals by contributing two goals to help Tottenham Hotspur trash Everton at the Wembley Stadium. A ‘questionable’ late goal gave Watford a win over Southampton, and Arsenal fell to Bournemouth despite taking the lead.

Manchester United closed defeated relegation-zoned Stoke City to take advantage of Manchester City’s slip and move 3 points closer to cut the gap at the top of the league standings to 12 points.
